Locally it's about 65k for a median salary. It's also tied into State insurance and retirement which are excellent.

Try more like $40k range.

She's always late or taking the day off for this and that because her husband was at work
Not valid excuse if she worked for me, unless she had some skill that was extremely difficult to replace. I have kids too and understand shite happens (kids get sick, doctor/dentist appointments, special events at school) But if she's routinely late and/or missing work then I need to find someone more dependable.

Unsure what to make of the downvote, since I speak from nearly 3 decades of experience.

Starting pay is around $35 but I guess that also depends on the area.

He might be putting out fires but it ain't at work, my BIL is a EMT in a large metro dept and he's always at home. They work 1 day on and 3 days off and get several weeks of vacation a year which goes a long way when you only work 2 days a week, they make decent money if they work a lot of OT which they get due to the shortage of EMT's in said department. No way I'd do it for what he makes given the crap he has to put up dealing with 90% of their calls, he's at a station in low income urban area.

Depends on where you work and what you do. I'm a firefighter and am lucky enough to work for one of the highest paid departments in the state. Others aren't so lucky. Starting out is about $35k but we get a small raise with each year we work plus pay raises for EMT and then Paramedic certs and liscense. My dept also gives $300 a year for each firefighting certification the state offers (there are around 30 of them). We work 24 hr shifts, 5 day tours with 24 hrs in between. So after our 5th day we have 6 days off until we come back to work. Like I said I got very lucky by getting a job here to start.

If he's new at it, he's probably making $45k or less. If he's been there a while, it might be significantly more depending on his rank and certifications.
But MANY of them work at two departments, so you can double that.

Don't most work 24 on and 48 off? That's the reason most have a side job, is because they easily can.
It's because they have to, especially if they have a wife & kids

you definitely are lucky...lol My Dept starts at $9.30/hr but if you have EMT-B, then you start at $10/hr. We get a .70/hr raise for EMT and that's it. All we get is our 2% civil service raise every year on our anniversary. Our insurance keeps getting worse every year. Count your blessings!

38k here with 6 years in. Started out at 26.5k my first year. Get a state pension after 10 years. No early retirement without a hefty penalty. They'll match 1.25% on 401k. Work 24hr on 48 hrs off. Overtime is paid as time and a half. $1000 a year bonus for EMT-A (no B's in GA) cert. $4000 a year bonus for a Bach degree. $500 a year bonus for each fluent language. Only reason I'm making 36k is because we couldn't keep employees. They gave us a raise to compete with other counties (we're still behind). The good pay and benefits left with the last generation. Garbage men get paid more than we do here (Northwest Ga)

They all have a side hustle. Next door neighbor at my old house was a fireman(he also had an inspection sticker business on the side). Didn't matter what anyone needed done he had a fireman who did it on the side.
And he got pissed if anyone in the neighborhood used anyone other than one of his firemen buddies.

EMTs don’t make much, by firefighters can make a good salary in the right city. South Carolina is not one of those states
My brother is a FF in DC now(he was in SC for the past 10 or so years).

yes, after your first year of employment. You get an extra $500/month.
