2.45 an hour doing basic maintenance at local school during the summer. 14 years old at the time, 1974. Best part of the day was jumping in the pond behind the building to cool off before changing clothes and going to baseball practice.

$3.85 an hour at Winn-Dixie (1989).

I have a cousin who in 1984 was working at a Baskin & Robbins for $2 an hour, I don't think it was even min. wage at the time. I remember b/c of the free ice-cream.

$2.00 / hour cash for pumping gas at a Union 76 station in 1975 at 14 yo. Did it thru jr year high school.

Was able to study after biz quieted down and I cleaned everything up. Was near a high school I didn't go to so I met all the cool cats that went there also.

I grew up on a farm. I'm sure the pay was shiat, but the old man was quick to spot me a twenty if I needed it, and I really never had to pay for gas.

My first job in college was at Lowe's. It was like $5.15/hour, and it sucked. I worked in outside lawn and garden, and we were treated like crap. I quit after a few months.

After that, I worked at Radio Shack for about the same pay, plus commission. What I didn't know was my manager was a piece of crap that would steal my commissions. She would literally swoop in to a computer sale and steal it. She knew nothing about computers, or anything! She would disappear for hours during the day to chat with friends at the rental furniture store. This was the late 90s, so computers were expensive and new to a ton of people. I actually could make $50 to set it up for people at their house. Guess I'm glad I wasn't murdered.

I thought I'd be able to study and get stuff done, since Radio Shack was pretty dead most of the day. Nope. If she caught me with a book, I get chewed out. Final straw was when I had an approved family vacation, she told me that I couldn't go because she had something come up. I was like... you are telling me I can't go on vacation with my family, or I will lose this job that nets me like $60/ week?

i realized after the fact that it was below minimum wage, but i also now realize i was paid in cash and didn't pay any taxes on it.

so... we're good here.

$4.25. Cleaning the emulsion out of the screens at a screen printing shop. I spent most of the day up to my elbows in mineral spirits which ate the skin off my hands. 1995. Good times.

$6.75/hr as a line cook at deangelos. I think it was slightly above minimum.

We also got charged $2 a paycheck for fountain drinks, which I didn’t use. Pissed me off.
