Younger brother is getting married next month. He is 25 years old. No wedding registry. They say no obligation for gifts, I’ll give cash. How much is acceptable in 2019?

Keep it small, it sounds like he's gonna be hitting you up the rest of his life.

Depends on how old/successful you are I guess

I mean, it's your brother. $1000 or whatever significant gesture you can afford.

Last I checked it's acceptable to give as much or as little as you want.

Give them 10 bucks and tell them you will increase the money exponentially every year for 10 years. Tell them you view their marriage as an investment.
Really though, I want to see what would happen if someone did that.

Are they going sans-registry to save for a home?

I'd give cash if so, but if not, probably something more thoughtful. Or cash + thoughtful gift.

The amount is completely personal/subjective.

I think you should go ahead and buy him a ladle, gravy boat and maybe some napkin rings. They get so much use during a young marriage just starting out.

He will just blow the cash on something useless.

Slowly subtract all the shite he owes you from growing up. End up with a number.

Are you in the wedding having to rent a tux? Did you throw a bachelor party? Is it a local wedding or will you have to travel and get a hotel? Did you spend money on a shower? Other peoples weddings can be expensive or cheap, depending on your involvement. If you have already shelled out a bunch of money on all of the above, I'd give much less than if the couple would have made it a simple event.

If you haven't shelled out a bunch of money, I'd say 250-500 is a good wedding gift from a brother. If you have already shelled out money, prob 100 bucks.

Depending on what your budget will allow, $500 - $1,000.
