My parents still have a house phone. Cell phones can be spotty inside their house, and the landline works much better.

If our Techno-Civilization continues to rise with the coming of AI, Robotics, Quantum Computing and the Biosphere, it is likely few of us can even imagine the changes that will come. We may well be like the Creatures in those UAPs (assuming such exists), absorbing Energy directly from Light (Sun) with re-generative bodies that are essential immortal. Or we may go the Fermi Paradox route.

Even so and regardless, the miraculous, extraordinarily wonderous beauty and singularly unique evolutionary drama or our kind is beyond words to describe. I look at a photo of my Great-granddaughter shooting a ten foot stream from the garden hose into the mouth of our big English Bulldog, with both just bursting with elation and joy, and I am overcome with poignant and bittersweet feeling. Especially given as both are no longer present.

Fleeting. Amazing. Praise God, the eternal Source.

Do you think that the cavemen scratching on the wall had a prediction of things?
How long Grog eats bugs?
When Grog's wife will wash herself daily?
When will Grog be able to stop Sabretooth from chasing?
When Grog doesnt scratch bullshite on cave walls and gets himself a workbook?

• Newspapers?

I remember how bulky the Sunday paper was with all those ads & flyers. It got old after awhile seeing the ads were almost repetitive depending on the season. I went directly for the Sports section and comics.

Phones?
I ditched the landline like 10 years ago. Even back then I was noticing all calls coming to my cell phone and none to my house, so why have it?

Newspapers?
'

I already don't get any paper publications at home except for one weekly local one. I subscribe to themed publications (WSJ, Business journals, etc.) but they are digital only.

Newspapers have already consolidated and many have closed. That's going to continue. Papers have to have a specialized focus (local news, business, sports, etc.) to survive and they have to figure out how to be trusted. They can't rely on paper distribution and have to have a good digital game.

People stopping and asking strangers for directions?

I still get asked for directions sometimes....but it's older people. So yeah this is very uncommon and people will start to associate it with scammers before too long.

House phones?

Already don't have them - a lot of people my age have mobile phones only, then some kind of link for a house alarm. That's it.

Irreplaceable family photos lost in a house fire?

Digital backups for most things taken in the last 20 years exists, but there will always be things that we have to take care of. If I knew a flood or fire was coming, I'd probably take my laptops, some kid's toys, and things that were handed down in the family before I evacuate. Everything else can be replaced.

You are right that we are probably a generation away from people hanging on to hard photographs like that.

Asking directions is also extinct.

I get several phone calls everyday asking where my business is located and business hours. My favorite, especially on Saturday afternoons, I just answer 4 o'clock.

My parents got rid of theirs last year. AT&T just stopped maintaining them. It would never work anymore.

I will always remember the phone number for their house and for the houses of all of my friends growing up. I doubt any of them work anymore.

Newspapers:

Physical ones? Do these still exist? I last had a newspaper delivered In the early 2000s and haven’t actually touched one in over five years. How are these not already dead?

Land line phones: Haven’t had one since Katrina in 2005. These will cease to exist in the next five or 10 years as the rest of the old people die.

Asking for directions: There will always be lazy and dumb people. This will never end

The only reason I have a home phone is because my cable bill was cheaper with the phone bundle.

LAN lines and Ethernet are hard wired. If you are smart, you will keep them even if you are thought outdated.

My LAN line has its own power line and often I have lost power but my phone still works. More importantly, with no battery, I never have to worry about a phone dying at a critical moment.

My Ethernet is not only faster than a router, but also safer. It is 100% reliable and needs no batteries.

The older I get the more I want to have a house fully wired and no need for batteries.

Have you not heard of Google maps. It's an app you put on your phone. I don't think I've ever asked for directions.

Even digital "local"newspapers are devoid of much local news. Some HS sports and obituaries.

And since they are consolidated in many cases, the state/national stories are always identical.

For example, I can barely tell the difference between the Pensacola News Journal and NWFL Daily News. Other than a few items, the digital versions are very similar.

And if something is digital, it can be altered - ala "Big Brother".

I don’t see how your second city, maybe even first city newspapers (maybe except for a few legacy institutions like NYT, WSJ) will be printing physical copies in the next 20 years.

There may still be a place for small town, local newspapers, or as some said, specialized media, but a lot of your standard print editions (i.e, the Clarion Ledger) are mostly ads, some legal notices, and whatever is in USA Today.

It’s a shame how bad some of the local coverage has gotten versus 20 years ago.
