Doing a survey.

TLDR version,

There's a woman in my company who is look at me person. You know the type always drama going on in her life, mostly from her poor choices. She's also a California Liberal.

Back early in the quarantine, she sent a company wide email claiming to have gotten Covid even though she, "quarantined, didn't go anywhere, didn't go out for groceries, lives by herself, etc"

She has rode the sympathy train because she was the first person most of us knew that said they had Covid. Her original email was full of virtue crap, like be sure to hug your loved ones, your next days not promised, etc. At the time some of us had a feeling she was full of crap.

Fast forward to sometime last week, she makes another announcement that she has Covid again and sends the bosses a picture of positive Covid test. So maybe this one is legit. Maybe they both were.

My first thought is this lady is full of crap on the first diagnosis because she would be one out of millions to get Covid again but I'm no expert. I only know what the news reports.

She knew there was going to be some skepticism so she made sure to include a comment about, "I know several people who have gotten Covid twice." Really? The news says there has been one confirmed reinfection in the country but she somehow knows several people that have gotten it twice.

I have my opinion of the woman. I hate I'm spending mental energy thinking about this, but I dislike this woman even works in the same organization as me. So I thought to ask the OT.

Do you personally know of someone that has gotten the Covid twice? Is reinfection a common thing and its just not being reported?

I have felt like crap three separate times since early March. Never got tested once. Who knows. I don't even care really.

So you're saying this woman did something for attention? I've never seen that before.

I know several people who have gotten it but haven't heard anyone claim they got it twice. Some people say they think they got it before we knew about it but I don't consider that anything but a theory.

What's interesting is that there are so few double infection people they have at least determined to be plausible. I find that encouraging for vaccine efficacy. I'm not a doctor or virus expert, but if like 10 people on Earth have been infected twice, that's not enough to question whether a vaccine would work for the other couple billion of us.

There are only a dozen or so that have been verified. This is well within the specificity error rate of the tests. At this point and statistically, it is extremely improbable that you can catch the same strain twice.

She sounds whacky. Problem is that the Dr's barely have definitive knowledge of the illness. I have heard all kinds of theories from extremely bright medical professionals to my grandmother who believes every conspiracy theory that exists. NO ONE KNOWS.

How do you trust any of it... there has been so much news of false positives, inaccurate tests, assumptions of being positive because of symptoms without even seeing test results etc..

we went through a Flu season with everything being reported as Covid, now we are entering another Flu season. No Flu cases being reported; but people are getting Covid all over again. Seems like at some point people would get tired of being lied to.

I’ll say this:

Granted, I work at home so my exposure is somewhat limited but I do have a kid in school and a wife who teaches and is around over 1,000 people every single day. I do all the shopping since we have a baby at home and my wife is still breastfeeding. Trying to be cautious. My father in law had it and I had close exposure to him. Didn’t catch it.

However, I’ve been sick more than ever in my life this year alone. I’ve been tested twice and had an antibody test and all three times I was NEGATIVE.

I’m thinking you damn near have to try to catch this shite once. Twice would be hard to do.

My neighbor's daughter has tested positive for corona on two separate occasions. Her symptoms were not very severe either time though.

Same with me. I know maybe 8 to 10 that have confirmed had it. And I have a decent sized network including my customers and their employees.

I think that's why I got pissed about this woman's crap.

My sister got it twice about 2 months apart. She only got tested the 2nd time to prove she was right and to confirm the similar symptoms.

I'm 95% sure I've had it twice. Definitely not a "look at me" person. I'll give you the facts and timeline and let you decide.

-Tested positive for Flu in January, recovered in 3 days.

-Sick again in early March... Had every Covid symptom and couldn't shake the fever for 10 whole days. Roughly 2 weeks to full recovery. Tested negative for Flu but due to shortage of Covid tests and being young they wouldn't test me since I had no known contact or international travel.

-Got tested for Covid twice in July/August because of possible exposure, negative both times.

-About 5 weeks ago, I went to a party and thought I had a 2 day long hangover... ended up lingering so I got tested again and was positive for Covid. Felt sick for about 2 days and then it was gone.

ETA: I think there are different strains. People's symptoms are just too inconsistent for this all to be the same exact virus.
