How many people do you know that have had the AIDS vaccine?

Food for thought: AIDS has been a known virus since they early 80's, yet we still have no vaccine? How can we be confident that a Covid-19 vaccination can even be created? If we're being told we have to live in the "new normal" until we get a vaccine, why hasn't anyone even asked this?

There will be a vaccine, there will be more than one. Too much money in it not to. How effective they are is another question.
But it’s not just a vaccine we’re looking for, effective antivirals are as if not more important. There’s a shitload of money in that too so they’re working on it I know that much.

I've been wearing my AIDS mask since 1985

Or we could all just build Our own immunity and be done. I have zero intention of taking a vaccine for something that is 99.7% survivable and for which the vaccine is so new and unproven. The cure well be worse than the virus.

I'd imagine different classes of virus are harder/easier to develop vaccines for.

There are several vaccines that have proven to be effective and safe in healthy people. People who have had the vaccine were protected when exposed to people with the virus.
They are going in to phase 3 trials (large group including unhealthy people) in the next couple weeks. It will take about 6-9 weeks after the beginning of phase 3 trials before they are approved for emergency use. December/January before enough doses for US. March/April for widespread global distribution.
The synthetic plasma cocktail has entered phase 3 trial and could be approved by early to mid August. This can be used for treatment and profilactivly.
There will be enough remdesivir that it does not need to be rationed by September.

1. Completely different kind of virus.
2. The risk of Aids can be almost completely eliminated by avoiding some very specific practices.
3. There are treatments that render what was once a death sentence into a chronic, manageable condition.
This all took about ten years, and most of the advances took place in the final two years of that period. We've already made a lot of advances in treating Covid in the first six months of knowing about it. Even more treatments are coming online, and there will be one or more vaccines by the end of this year or early next year.

They didn’t even try for ten years. VirusEs mutate and are one of the most successful creatures on the planet. They are hard to deal with it

If you have a week to spare, go down that rabbit hole. There are numerous studies about closet homosexual men (especially in the black community) that became infected with HIV and then subsequently passed it to their female companions.
And obviously IV drug use played a huge role as well.
But when you really dig into the data, you learn that chances of acquiring HIV as a strictly heterosexual male Is almost zero.

I'm curious if the people that are immune from the HIV virus, are they immune from Covid?

An openly gay guy that I used to work with told me that I'd be shocked to know how many married or otherwise straight men were on those gay hook up apps. He made it sound like it was very common and even preferred because they didn't come with all the baggage that f@gs had. (I don't know if I can say that or not, but that was his words.)
