Not sticking with Boy Scouts through eagle is actually a major regret of mine. In my defense, the troop we had was terribly boring.

My boys (incl me) are going to camp in CO this year.....last year in Fredericksburg TX was awful.

Low to mid 80s for the high and high 50s for the nighttime.

Honestly, I hated it. But I wish I had gotten my Eagle Scout because that’s still a big deal to some people.

My brother and I were both Eagle Scouts. One of the main reasons I got it was because my dad caught me stealing his car when I was 16(legal age to drive was 17) and the only way he wouldn’t tell my mom is if I went to every scout meeting for the rest of the year and didn’t complain. I went, didn’t complain, and got my eagle.

We had a great troop though. Camping every month except the summer but still did a scout camp. Went to Philmont which was awesome too. Great experiences and great organization but there was so BS that sucked. It certainly prepared me better for life and anyone who doesn’t see that is an idiot.

Another LIFE scout here...

My troop folded after the Scoutmaster's son beat up another kid... Scoutmaster's son was 17...

I went to another troop to finish my Eagle scout but it just wasn't the same and I never finished. Had all my merit badges but needed a little time and a service project.

Camp Edgewood was my home away from home 5 or 6 times a year for many years of my childhood.

Not cool once you get to high school, they ought to have a separate deal that is more appealing to high schoolers. I made it through 8th grade but quit to play sports because you have no time. The troop my son is in does all of the high adventure trips and every summer goes out of state to summer camps. The high adventure is really the best part of it but you have to be at least 14. If you do Philmont in New Mexico, Northern Tier in Canada and Sea Base in Florida Keys it is very strenuous and a great experience.

Not me. And I did all the same things in the woods, except I got to carry a real gun not a BB gun.

First class.

All my friends quit after Philmont, as did I. I wish I’d have stayed, but I was a dumb teenager.

They've had Exploring/Venturing for decades now, and I kind of wish Sea Scouts was around back when I was a youth. (Also, wish I were more motivated then to earn my Eagle as early as I could have and then moved on to a Venture crew somewhere.)

It's not a national High Adventure Base, but the Evangeline Area Council (Lafayette area)started Swamp Base a few years ago for a 70-mile canoe trip through the Atchafalya Basin. Neat to have a High Adventure area here in Louisiana now, but I'm not sure if a paddle trip through the Basin during the summer sounds all that appealing.
