My Dad had one of those tall aluminum antennas. I don't think it had the rotating feature. Hurricane Betsy came along and twisted that thing up like pretzel.

Had the huge antenna but didn’t need to turn it for whatever reason.

My parents still have theirs. We have the motorized unit on it, however it was not a channel master control. The one we had was smaller in size but had a large rubber dial with the compass directions for the needle. During the night time hours we would turn it to catch KADN out of Lafayette on UHF. Other than that we only got KALB, KATC, and KLFY at the time.

Folks did what it took to watch the Saints out of Lafayette TV. BR use to be blacked out.
You needed a rotary antenna to watch.

I have one now. Slightly more modern but same basic tech. We are in the boonies and pick up like 55 channels from Asheville to Greenville. That plus Starlink and we’re set.

Rocking the modern antenna now

I’m not that old of a baw, but we lived out in the parish, so did my grandparents and my cousins. Cable didn’t run to my house. When I was staying at a friend’s house, I loved it because it was the only time I was able to watch cable.
We still couldn’t get NBC worth a crap. So I grew up with only three channels.
All those cool 80s TV shows on NBC-not for me. The suffering was real.

Same here in the thriving metropolis of Glenmora.
I probably know you if you grew up in Forest Hill.

Nobody says "yeah, I think we probably had one of those, I can't quite recall" when it comes to the antenna. Anyone who had one remembers it vividly. Many dads lost their $hit over antenna related matters.

dad kept a pipe wrench on it and he'd send me or my brother out to turn it depending on what he wanted to watch.
"But Dad, it's storming out here..."
"You'll be fine. Stop being a candyass "

My dad was proud of his, was on a 30' pole with guide wires and a tenna rotor
You were really the shite if you had one of these...
We have one at the camp, but they look like this now...

How Many of You 45+ Year Old Baws Remember Old School TV Antennas?
Yep. Dad would get me to turn the outside antenna until the pic was clearer.
It amazes me that we now have tv in super HD and back then, we watched fuzzy tv with bars going through the picture.

I have one on my roof from cordcutting.
When was a kid in the days of LSU and Saints blackouts, we'd go to my grandfather's house in Baker because he had the big antenna on his house. The kids occasionally were sent up onto the roof to make adjustments when the signal shifted.

Y’all were fancy. We just jammed a bunch of foil on our rabbit ears to get reception.

I remember those very well. We had one for the old Magnavox TV.

We had one. Got 5 channels. If it rained we only got 3. Used to watch the simpsons when it first came out on channel 38. It always was a bit snowy but sometimes you could only hear it.
Around 1996 we got Primestar and it was glorious.
