Dude is from Livingston Parish. I suppose he may have shoehorned his way into a couple of Krewes, but he's not "old line" by any stretch. Yeah, and he's one of the handful people who basically bankroll the democrats in the state.

If it's the guy and his wife I'm thinking of, their house was flying Hermes and Iris flags.

Always love these types of Mardi Gras threads on the OT. Getting one in June is rare, but still fun.
The knocks in this thread on traditional New Orleans Mardi Gras are nothing new. Critics have been saying this kind of stuff for literally 100+ years. Somehow or other, these organizations live on, and thousands of people watch them in person and on TV every year.

DeBakey for example,
Not sure what you mean here - Debakey did attend Tulane as an undergrad and medical school but was born and raised in Lake Charles.

That’s cool. In case you haven’t been paying attention though the cancel and woke cult has exploded in the last year. It’s propped up by social media, higher Ed, the media, and the federal government.

It would take outsiders who don't give a shite about them or social/political status within New Orleans. I would love to see it happen, frankly. Most of that has-been faction are part of the woke movement anyway. They've been given the rope to hang themselves with for several decades now. Time
I'd love to see Elon colocate a facility next to Stennis and start spending a lot of time in Nola. He would shake things up.

yeah ok. They said NO FREAKIN WAY you're gonna force us to let some blacks join our club
The city was trying to force the clubs to allow blacks?
Is skin color even a qualification for membership?

There will always be people who come back to NOLA because their family name and reputation will get them high jobs here that they will not be able to get elsewhere.
This is what holds New Orleans and Louisiana back. They get hired because of family connections and not because they are good or better than anyone else for the job. That's fine and that's the way New Orleans is and will be, but then don't complain about how LA and NO is backward and isn't as good as Texas or doesn't attract the Korean, Japanese, and Germany automotive plants.
You can't say how wonderful Louisiana and New Orleans is and how it has such a high quality of life if you have some money and then complain how LA doesn't attract business.

I do think things are better than they were. The guy that ran Shell New Orleans until recently was a member at New Orleans Country Club and some mardi gras krewes. He and his wife were not from New Orleans but embraced the city and were embraced back. That would have never happened 30 years ago.
