I haven't had a barber, or anyone other than me cut my hair in decades. I usually let it grow out to 2 to 3 inches long and buzz cut it, so 3-4 times a year for me.
I'll trim around the back of my neck and around the ears between buzz cuts.

4-6 weeks, my hair grows pretty fast and once it gets long enough it starts getting curly and from light brown to blonde. It's really weird

I try to cut it every 2 weeks. I'm already an ugly guy, if I let me hair grow out it just makes it worse because I'm balding up top but the sides grow out normally.
