How long before pizza chains stop doing their own delivery?

I'm I wrong in thinking it would be less costly for them to partner with waitr, doordash, Uber eats, GrubHub, etc?

I don't see it. That is another company wanting a cut.
More likely we get automated vehicles that pull up into your driveway IMO. Still a ways to go though

Go read the waitr thread in the food board. Those delivery company takes too much of the pie.

That's mikelbr's backup job. I hope they keep delivering for his sake.

Is there any advantage to ordering a pizza through a third-party app vs. directly from the shop?
I ordered a pizza through Grubhub and when homeboy showed up he just had it in his hand like it was 1978. No insulated delivery bag, no accoutrements.

Dine-in pizza joint yes, but the delivery guys have it down to a science.

Paying employees $8 + tips an hour and having them actually give half a shite about the product in order to give them return business is better than outsourcing it to someone who doesn't give a shite about the brand. First party delivery from pizza places etc. will always be cheaper and more efficient. Waitr, grubhub or whatever take huge cuts too.

Pizza drones flown from a backroom

Who is dumb enough to have a complete stranger deliver food that don't work for the people that is fixing said food. Just another chance of some crazy to give you extra sauce.

I realize that. I'm just thinking it would be cheaper than having extra people on payroll and insurance

Drones, robots, and self-driving cars will be slinging pizzas soon.

Doctors and nurses. They order shite all the time

I read the other day that a lot of restaurants hate DoorDash and GrubHub because they don't ask the restaurants to participate. They just call in on the behalf of the customer and order the food, and then come and get it and deliver it to the customer. This is all without restaurant permission, and sometimes using outdating menus and whatnot.
So I don't think they're getting a cut.
Waitr and UberEats does, however.

Working in a downtown area, they're lifesavers when I forget to bring my lunch to work with me. And have some delicious as frick places that deliver through DoorDash, Postmates, etc.
Grubhub has fallen off a bit in where they deliver from up here though, with focus on a bunch of fast food bullshite.
And a lot of the places here will put tamper proof seals on their containers when they have a third party deliver.
It's not that serious.

Pizza chains like Papa John's are different. They use high tech systems that tell drivers exactly what order to take first and give them printed out directions and such. This is based on complex algorithms using variables like order time, crust types, ingredients, address.
Also delivery drivers make pizzas, take orders, and do prep and closing jobs when not on deliveries.
I've been following this very topic for several years now as a long time pizza boy and IT nerd. It's a valid question and someone may give it a try in the near future.

Doesn’t Waitr get like 25 percent of the total sale? And that’s the cheapest on the market
I doubt pizza delivery guys are making 25 percent of the revenue in a pizza place
