How long after the death of a spouse is it normal to start dating again?

A cousin of mine passed away not long ago and her widower was literally dating someone else within 5 weeks. Plenty of pics on Facebook of the new couple doing things that just don’t seem normal for someone who just lost their spouse. Pictures of them going on vacation, going to concerts, and of him cooking her breakfast all within less than three months of her death.

This is a weird thread. Maybe the man just needs some companionship.

Who cares what society thinks, take care of yourself

If you’re gonna do it that damn early at least be discreet about it.

That may be a little early but not an OMG early.

No magic number. Different for everyone but 5 weeks seems short. I’d guess the marriage has been “over” but dam.

I’m sure it’s different for everyone.

How did she die? If it was unexpected, yeah. That’s fast. If it was long and lingering, I don’t begrudge anybody finding happiness after going through something that horrible.

I think I have no idea what it is like to lose a spouse. Someone you had to confide in and talk to every day. I have no idea what that void is like.
And it sounds like you don't either.
Until you do, I wouldn't judge.

Less time than divorcees take

People grieve in different ways. Some people can move on like that, some people can’t. Some people just can’t stand to be alone.
It also depends on the quality of the relationship when their significant other passed.

Tough call. Do you want them to sit around and dwell?

Some people are really lonely and need someone in their life. In the old days it was expected that widowed people would remarry asap if they could.
I had a friend in college whose mother died unexpectedly. Her father remarried within a year. It did cause quite a bit of friction at the time, but they all get along now.

Surviving spouse should be on the prowl at the wake.

5 years before they die or when she stops giving bj's, whichever comes first.
