I hope your kids think the same way you do .

Same here. If my house was big enough I'd have already had my mom here. My dad passed in '18 and shes living alone. Id love for her to sell the house and just live with us. Shes over here all the time watching my kids anyway.

Not sure I would say 'lame'. It can be very stressful though. My mother-in-law now lives with us(she's 76) and she constantly tries to interfere with our normal routine. My kids(12 and 14) are actively avoiding her and it causes problems for routine stuff like homework and playing outside. Even things like grocery shopping have to be adjusted because she doesn't like this brand or that brand or whatever. It can definitely be a strain.

Parents are in their mid-60's and sold their house so they could build a new one. Made the mistake of letting them move in with me while their house was being built. Thought it would be a few months but unfortunately, it's been 7 months now and probably a couple more to go. Love my parents but this was a bad decision on my part.

I can solve this: teach her to shop on the computer at a store that has grocery pickup. She does the shopping, you do the pick up on your way home. She can't bitch about which brand or size you bought, because SHE did the buying.

Loving your parents is super fricking lame, bro. Leave them on the lawn.

Hard pass, mine tried to take care of my grandfather and it went really bad. We all agree that a home is where they should go when they can no longer live on their own. They have planned and budgeted for it as well. I’m with them too, I’m ok with a home when I get in that state. I’m sure as frick not letting my in laws in either. I don’t care if they are ok with it or not.

Well I'm doing it regardless, but I was just curious if me doing so is lame

She doesn't do the buying though. Her SS money never gets touched but she will bitch about everything being bought. If my wife tells her to buy what she wants, she pulls the "I should just go to a retirement home" bit to guilt my wife into caving to her demands.

You better cherish the time they’re alive

Much less lame than moving back in with your parents.

I'm literally going to have this talk with my Dad who's having a heart cath tomorrow about this very thing. I have the room and he's getting to that age. Only problem is he's gonna call me a bitch and fight with me about it ????????. I love the ole bastard.

Not when they cannot move in with you. Do whatcha gotta do.

I’d build my parents a nice little apartment in the back tomorrow. I guess I’m just lucky, my parents are awesome and I hope I’m lucky enough to get to take care of them one day. I think it would be really cool getting to spend their latter years in close proximity to them.

this is key. Believe it or not, most parents from at least one side of the relationship are annoying AF.

Say you're a divorced guy with kids that live across the state, that visit twice a month and your house is still way too big. Your parents are 75+ and you will eventually have to take care of them anyways. Should you go ahead and move them in with you?
Depends on a number of variables. If they are indigent kids may need to bail out parents. Oh and the fifth commandment about honoring thy father and mother. But I guess people aren't into the Ten Commandments anymore.

Absolutely move them in.
They took care of you for 18+ years.
It’s now time for you to take care of them.

If it’s both parents let them live together and get someone to look in on them.
If it’s only one have them move I with you as long as they can. Delay putting then in “home” as long as you can - if they were good parents it’s the least you can do imo.
