My wife works from home, and has a great job. I'm considering changing my career and starting an entry level job at her company.
I don't know the company, so maybe it's not an issue. However, in this economy bad things can happen overnight for a company. With that, here's my advice...definitely do some research on that company before you put all of your eggs in the same basket. By that I mean if you both work for the same company and it tanks, you could end up completely screwed. Having diversity in your income source is a good thing.

frick that. It shouldn’t be like that. Not here in America
Our leaders are wholly incompetent and it almost seems like they’re tanking the country on purpose
I challenge anyone to prove to me otherwise

Definitely sound advice. Without getting too specific, the company she works for is involved with corporate law, so I don't think it's as prone to suffering from a recession. Even so, I'm well established and experienced enough to bounce back fairly quickly if something bad did happen.

I truly hope that people take an honest assessment of the past 3 years, see who has been pushing for school shutdowns/remote learning, vaccine passports/requirements for entry into normal society, business closures, travel restrictions, and continued printing money to fund useless programs and remember that. Hopefully they will get more involved with local politics and actually look into who they are voting for on local and state elections.
We need a reckoning and an awakening and people need to take back control from those currently ruining things.

Which is an entirely separate problem from inflation that needs to be addressed. When I was in my early 20s I also had the issue of an unexpected $250 change in expenses screwing me, so I know what it's like. I know what it's like to pay for $3.76 in gas because that's how much I'm going to use for the next 2 days.
I had to learn many mistakes the hard way and live with the consequences. My mindset looking back is never ever live paycheck to paycheck.
My wife and I work from home, so we don't get terribly much human contact. We get some, don't get me wrong. I went into the office yesterday, we go to the store, we go out to restaurants/bars, etc. We aren't recluses but we can go an entire week with our only trips being the grocery store and other people outside. All that to say I don't have the reference some of the other people in my family have such as my sister who is very social and has kids. On the phone the other day she told me she didn't know anyone who had kids who wasn't living by the skin of their teeth.
The issue I have with that is that I know the people she knows. They are people from our hometown, some old high school acquaintances, etc. And I know the vehicles they drive, the houses they live in, the guns they have, the cookers permanently fixed to the expensive trailer, etc.
We need an education on the perils of over consumption and buying shite you just don't need. Living lives you can't afford is an epidemic. And it looks like the other shoe is dropping right now. It's sad and bad for everyone involved.

I think the left wing of the Democratic party wants that, but I'm not sure Biden actually does. He's just incompetent.
But people like AOC and her squad of bitches, Bernie Sanders, that cocksucker Stephen Colbert, etc - they're French nobles in 1793.

The problem with that is our economy is now built upon the premise that we will overconsume. We don't build and create as much. We consume.

I joke a LOT on this board. But seriously, I love all men the same. I must admit though, I sure wish there was a way to make those who voted for Biden suffer worse than others. Those idiots deserve to be broke before any others.

I was thinking about that the other day. When they do legitimize a social credit score in this country, your voting record should be tied to it. So when you go to swipe your credit card at the pump, if you voted for Trump, you pay $2 a gallon. If you voted for a 3rd party clown like me, you pay $4. If you voted for Biden, you pay $6.
Do the same thing at grocery stores, when you pay rent, utility bills, etc.

I have a cleaning service. I've had three cancellations ( for good) in a week. One lost his job due to cutbacks, and the other two told me it was the cost of living increases that caused them to cancel. I did not raise my rates because I was afraid I'd lose homes.
This is such a frustrating issue and many don't seem to understand the trickle down effect of an economy like this. We use several "luxury" services, and having cleaning ladies twice per month is one of them. It's an extra expense we don't need, as we're perfectly capable of cleaning our home. But, these ladies are wonderful and do an amazing job.
I struggle with the idea of tightening our purse strings because I realize how much it will directly affect them. At the end of the day, we need to make sure our children are cared for, we have food on our table, and we can keep the lights on, but I will consciously cut back in other areas to keep them employed.

Not if your costs have gone up. If he was making $20 per lawn and is still making $20 per lawn, losing 25% of your business isn't more money for less work.

Overall I'm lucky. My wife and I have done overall good, and I've been in a work from home job for 7 years now, so I don't have to drive a lot. But other than eating out, we don't spend a lot of money anymore, but we are trying to support local businesses.
I was hoping to retire in 2 years, but I'm not sure I will be able to. If you have a decent job, you might just need to hang on to it.

We're not struggling, but we no longer go anywhere on the weekends. We cook more at home, no longer eating out, no longer run the roads and go shopping. You know..."the trickle down effect".

Like others I’m fine now, but when I was newly married and just getting started 29 years ago this would have been crushing.
My wife and I had exactly enough money to cover our bills and eat at McDonald’s once a week as a luxury. The apartments we were living in raised their rent 25 dollars a month and we had to move. We just couldn’t afford it anymore.
Thanks for the perspective.

At the beginning of Delta I went to the grocery store and saw an old couple with about 6 items. Mostly generic. They were obviously retired and on a tight budget apparently. Anyway, we were stuck behind a messican and a queen . Both had fully loaded carts. I give the illegals props though - they at least had generics in their buggy.
This country is so fricked.
