That’s why you legally (that’s right legally) carry a pistol. Unless they are cracked out of their mind most people will backdown if they know you can defend yourself with deadly force.

Don’t (I repeat don’t) carry a gun or pull a gun on someone unless you know how to use it, you aren’t afraid to use it, and it’s clear cut self defense.

I used to subdue people a lot working security so I got accustomed to guys backing down.

When I was in the psych ward in 2016, this other patient punched me at the dinner table.

It shocked me so much that I shite my pants.

It's good to have at least a cursory knowledge of self-defense to carry yourself with confidence and to be comfortable with confrontation.

Take a look at some CCW forums with these shaky CCW warriors ready to squeeze off rounds with anyone who so much as raises their voice.

I’m older then most on here(52) haven’t got into an actual physical altercation in twenty plus years. I’ve come close several times, never my fault. The last was earlier this year. I was at a donut shop in Port Allen at 5am when this big black guy ( I’m big too 6’2” 230lbs) just walked to the front of the line . I told him that he needed to get in back of the line. He said he’s in a hurry blah blah. Anyway we go back and forth with a few unpleasant language. Then he tells me “ you don’t know you F’ing with” then I let out with a F you. Well the lady that owns it steps in and tells him he would have to go the back.... I probably would have got my arse kicked but so be it, I couldn’t have lived with myself letting somebody handle me like that

If you find yourself in a physical altercation, I'd say pretty damned important!

Right but isn’t that like saying “it is super important to know how to drive an 18 wheeler if you find yourself behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler.”? I mean it’s true but it doesn’t really answer the question of it’s overall importance.

Unless someone is directly threatening my wife and/or kids, I'll be a "pussy" and walk away

I boxed for about 5 years, never did any kind of "official" bouts or anything but certainly learned enough to defend myself and feel confident I could do so if I needed to. I took many beatings and delivered a few, but would never say I was great at it.

I would suggest it to anybody, male or female, between ages 10 to 40. It's a great workout that can teach some useful tools, even if you just train with bags and mits.

Most people don't even know how to properly throw a punch or defend themselves from one. I was never anything special when it came to boxing, but even with that being said I'd like my chances against 99.9% of people that didn't train at it.

TLDR - it's never too late to take up boxing

Anyway what are your thoughts on the importance of being able to defend yourself in a physical confrontation?

Don't be a dick to other dudes. If you see a drunk baw, stray away if he is acting belligerent. Try to be people's friends.

As for just random violence, there isn't much that can be done really. Even if you think you can take a dude, you never know when he has a weapon. I am gonna hand over my cash and just call the Cops if I get mugged or something. This would be especially true if I had a female or kids with me.

I wrestled and boxed in HS before going into the military. That said, I'm 41 now and the hands aren't as fast as they used to be but if I can close the distance on you and get close, cutting off the oxygen to the brain has always been my go to as a short guy with a reach disadvantage.
I have tough skin and can take all the trash talk you can dish out, but if you come at my wife/kids that's another matter.

9/10 street fights are not boxing matches. Jiu jitsu is 100x better for self defense than boxing

As an added bonus, you can still frick people up

Everyone should know how to defend themselves so they won’t have to. People who know how to fight are more confident and less likely to vote Democrat baw.

This. Grappling is more useful and most "fights" go to the ground.
