Keep it level, flaps down or up, landing gear, land. I can do it on MS flight simulator, can't be any harder than that.

Just takes a lot of money and time, not having any health issues to fail a physical helps too.

Based on what my friends went through to get jobs in the field, this seems like a field that has way more capable people than positions available.

Taking off is not bad.
Flying is relatively easy.

Landing is the hard part.

You have to spend the night at a Holiday Inn Express.

I talked with a pilot that flies a 787 non stop from Houston to Sydney last month. He said it is incredibly easy to fly these planes and he hardly has to do anything. They do take 6 hour shifts though.

I think he means the plane doing cartwheels (crashing) like you see on videos. Killing everyone, including himself

Absorbing their power was the only way my big arse could do the cartwheel

I do believe he's saying he'd ground loop the plane on an unsuccessful landing attempt. Ground loop is a perfectly fine description of a cartwheeling aircraft.

Exactly what my FIL said. After flying a B17 in WW2 he never flew again.

My uncle flew in Vietnam days. Retired from the Air Force and never flew again.

Neighbor, now retired usaf colonel, managed a training center in socal for an airline.

You dont need that if it is easy.

Of course if no weather, no passengers, no freight, and your landing strip is uninteresting, not that big a deal.

The cockpits are more complicated but flying is flying.

Commercial jets are designed to be easy to fly. They are very stable.

If you can fly single engine you can fly an airliner with a little guidance. I've got my Rec Certificate. Flying is just a little more difficult than riding a motorcycle.

It's the pre-flight planning that's a bitch. Ain't nobody got time for that.

You should listen to the ATC recordings.

I have my PPL, and when I interned with United in Houston one of "bonuses" was some sim time in the 737. In visual conditions with no issues, it was "easy". I absolutely effed up when they started throwing in severe weather and failures and yadda ya.

It didn't end well I'm assuming because he didn't stay at Holiday Inn Express the night before the theft err stunt.
