How hard is it to design an efficient checkout line?

I mean, what the hell, it's 2017. Grocers have to have learned by now how to have people quickly processed.

The only thing I can think of is grocers like the appearance of big lines so it tricks people into shopping more waiting for the lines to go down.

But that shouldn't fricking apply to the checkout process.

I don't blame the cashiers. I don't really blame floor level management but they should be more aware when problems start building.

I blame the suits. The people who financed the building. The people who should have had vision but didn't.

This is a reason grocery apps will boom and people will get their groceries delivered or show up and pick them up already bagged

The question is..with the money they would spend to hire and pay another cashier, would they make that up in sales. Big chains have created a mathematical formula that tells them exactly how many cashiers they need to maximize profits.

Sam's was always the worst. No matter what line you were in it took forever. But with their scan and go app as soon as you're done shopping you're ready to head for the door.

I don't want some random joe to be choosing my fruits and vegetables honestly.

I think that is part of the problem butntoday, all the registers were full. It was the company policies.

At the very least, there needs to be a line for special requests

Why should I have to suffer because the woman in front of me is shipping 30 gallons to two different locations.

This. We ordered avacado during a wal mart pickup and they were as green as tennis balls and as hard as my head.

You're just gonna have to wait a couple days for that avocado toast.

Yep. Hell we even started using Walmart again for most things since we don't have to step foot in the store. They load them in the back of the truck. The wife picks up meats and fresh veggies at Rouses or some place like that.

Walmart does have some store where you can scan items as you cart them and just walk out

Meh. That's why I don't mind paying a little more to not have to shop at the Walmarts and Winn Dixies.
I also generally do my shopping early

They should have one line for everyone, with people being fed into cashiers from there. Multiple lines had been proven to be inefficient.

I go to three stores. Costco, Bourque's, and butcher boy.

Why? I have never waited longer than two minutes in line at any of them.

Wal-Mart has like 15 checkout counters but only 3 are ever open at one time.

I disagree. I like walking around the store.

Sometimes all they have is green ones. That’s not just Walmart that’s a fact of life in the retail produce business.

Self-checkout at Wal-Mart, the girl has to come over at least 2-3 times b/c there is some error while scanning.

I never really have to wait at NuNu's or Rouse's.

Academy has been getting worse.
