If you have to ask this, you're already too late.

Points taken. Thanks for all the advice. I'll apply to both.

Idk why you would reduce your chance of med school acceptance at the by not applying to one of the schools you're most likely to get into (considering you're a la resident)

As cwil177 said, earlier is always better than later for applications in any aspect of life, all other things being equal. If you're a competitive applicant, you don't want to miss out on an interview just because you took too long to submit your application. Think of it this way: if you get your application in as early as possible, using LSU-NO as the example, there are 200 spots remaining in the class. If you get your application in late, there might only be 50 spots remaining.

MrSpock's advice is also good. Go to the cheapest medical school you can get into as long as there aren't some extenuating circumstances in your life. Getting into a certain residency might depend somewhat on where you go to medical school, but your grades, test scores, and performance in clerkships is infinitely more important. You'll be thankful upon graduation when you have $120,000-$160,000 in debt compared to $300,000+.

ETA: Unless you have some reason why you absolutely can't go to LSU-Shreveport, then apply to both New Orleans and Shreveport. You don't want to waste a year of your life just so you can apply again.

So, a little secret, LSU-S is an exceptional medical school. Really it is, I got into a super competitive residency, and would have stacked my skills and knowledge entering residency against anyone. I'm now in private practice.

This is an early lesson, early bird gets the worm, cast a wide net, and don't be too proud to do anything ever. Both LSU medical schools are outstanding. If there is a way to PM me, do so, I enjoy giving career advice.

And another thing, the female talent, in med school but especially the allied health school (pa/ot/pt) is eye popping. I married one (no pics), and admittedly far far outkicked my coverage.

Med school is a lot of work, but was the greatest time in my life, without question.

I don't mean to be rude but who the hell is advising you while you're in undergrad?

How do you not know that you should apply to all the in-state schools and you should apply as early as possible? This is preached day one of pre-med

A lot of the girls in med school are actually insane. Go for the fit PT girls who are chill or maybe get with one of the smarter nursing students or PA students. Going outside of your class/curriculum is better because Med school is like high school 2.0.

You'd be surprised. I got a lot of bs advice, 'your application is so strong, good gpa, excellent MCAT, you've got nothing to worry about'. They tell that to people who don't know better. F that, I applied as early and as often as I could. It really is a dry run for the residency application process.

True. I married a PT. But again they could make an allied health calendar if they wanted to.

a side note, does anyone know if it looks negatively on me if I only apply to LSU-NO and not LSU-Shreveport?

Why would you limit your options like that?

You should. Lithette #2 applied to both, scheduled her NO interview early, goy accepted then canceled her Shreveport Application.

slightly off topic, but what does a competitive med school resume look like?

Same name as one of the buildings.

If you don't get into LSU, just go down to the islands for med school.

Why? I've known quite a few people who did that for both med school and vet school.

There are more US medical schools now and thus medical graduates without the commensurate increase in residency spots.

It's not the same climate as it was just 5 years ago.

It is a huge gamble to go down to the Caribbean right now.
