How early in the application cycle should one apply to LSU Med?

I have read through some past threads and threads on the SDN recommending to apply earlier rather than later.

What's the latest one should consider applying to not lessen the chance of getting in?

The early decision period is from June 1 to August 1. Is it wise to apply during this period even if you may not be as strong of a candidate? Or shoot to apply August 2?

TIA

Just go to optometry school. They can do surgery nowadays.

I'm just trying to determine that latest I should take the MCAT.

It's a trade off between attempting to achieve the highest score possible, increasing my chance of getting in, while also not applying too late, decreasing my chance.

Don't apply during the EDP. You do have other options besides LSU right?

Applying earliest as possible GREATLY improves your chance of getting an earlier interview and thus acceptance, considering your application is competitive. If you need an MCAT score, I'd take the next month off and prepare to take it as soon as possible bc they only grant interviews to complete applications.

Yeah, I do. I just figured I asked here about LSU. It's not like I'm a weak candidate. I'm just not your 3.9 GPA with a 99 percentile MCAT score.

I appreciate that greatly, Sabi! You are always raising my spirits.

Gotcha, I see. I've already started studying, but I'm non-traditional working full time. So, unfortunately, I can't take the whole month off, but I am studying every spare moment that I have.

I already had to work less taking some classes this past year to show that I could still perform in school. Made all As with 2 A+s in upper level classes (Anatomy, Physiology, Upper Bios, etc.)!

Wow, I really appreciate that! I am in the middle of a coffee fueled MCAT study session now, so I will be emailing you tonight. Thanks, I can't wait to hear from you.

I'm a second year in Shreveport and my advice would be the earlier the better. I did regular decision and had my application sent in the first week it was out, got an early interview date, and was accepted before Thanksgiving break. Was really nice not having to stress about it all year and I know schools notice people who are on top of things. I know here they love EDP and will accept applicants who might not be as strong on paper but are committed to the school through EDP. Not sure how Eubanks in Nola handles EDP. I bet Soulja could steer you in the right direction in that regard.

Earlier the better always. Spots get filled. Don't screw up your future over something entirely in your control.

This is good to know. I may have to consider the EDP.

Finding out before Thanksgiving would be incredible. Almost a whole year to look forward to starting a new future, working and saving up money.

On a side note, does anyone know if it looks negatively on me if I only apply to LSU-NO and not LSU-Shreveport?

Generally earlier is better. This is the case with most applications in life. I don't remember how long nola or shreveport took to offer me an interview. New Orleans took a long time to get back to me with a decision after my interview date. Shreveport got back to me in a few weeks. Good luck, and practice your interview skills.

Here's my advice. Go to the cheapest school you can get into wether that be LSU or scholarships to another school. In the end nobody gives a god damn shite where you went to med school.

Physicians salaries are not rising and tuition continues to rise.

Bust your arse in school so you have a choice of a high paying specialty. If you really end up loving Peds or Family medicine than so be it and go to CHOP. But, you don't want to be forced into family medicine because you have no options.

As far as your question, nobody will care if you just apply to LSU New Orleans.

I don't think it will look negatively as I don't think Nola will see you only applied there. Do you have a reason for only wanting Nola? Because unless you have extenuating circumstances that necessitate you staying in Nola, you should probably apply to both just to better your chances.

I've known several people get into a competitive residency or eventual fellowship from LSU Sheveport. I've also knew someone to accept a spot at LSUS then get offered a spot close to starting day at LSUNO. Just apply.
