I woke up this morning to having no power. I call Entergy to see what's up, They tell me that back in March someone had called to cancel their service but used my address. Is that just something you can do with no verification? I spent 2 hours on the phone with them before I got my power back on. They told me this is a common occurrence. How and why is this possible?

You should call and tell them you want to cancel the service at your address, then give them theirs.

Had someone use my SSN to run up a couple thousand dollars in COX charges. Years later they wouldn't let me open an account unless I settled up. Even said the name and address didn't match me.

The lack of caring on the business side in a monopoly situation likely leads to these things. No need to improve service.

Have you ever met an Entergy employee? It’s basically one step ahead of the DMV. Maybe.

My bad.

PS, I cancelled your sex doll club membership, too. And your subscription to Furries are people too.

You'd be surprised how many people will do exactly what their computer tells them to do. They gotta "cover their arse". I ask em sometimes at work "if that JSEA said to put your head in an oven would you do it" and they usually just hang their head in shame.

Our President, that was a former Engineer at Florida Power. Returned home from vacation to find his power cut off, refrigerator and freezer full of spoiled food. Mistake made in pulling the meter to his home and not the neighbor next door. As a former employee, now President of one of their biggest suppliers. Marketing decisions led to lawyers getting involved. In the end, a new refrigerator, freezer and all spoiled foods were replaced. Plus payment for time spent at a local hotel.

Memphis Power. Leaking transformer caused damage to the interior of a retired Fire Marshals car. Marketing refused to clean the car. Activist wife stepped in……every transformer in the system had to be replaced because some idiot recycled oil with PLC’s into the tanks. Everything was contaminated. Marketing should have cleaned the car and all would be forgotten. Numerous careers ended that week.

Fix it and end it….

Back when we were just a couple years out of high school I had a friend who was moving into his first place. I went with him to get the power turned on at his new place. The woman told him she couldn't do it because his SSN and some other info was used to open another account and it was "very delinquent". Two hours later we got her to do a temporary turn on, or something or the other, just so he could have lights while he figured it out.

I can't remember the full resolution, but they called him the day before the temporary situation ran out and told him it had been taken care of. I don't know if he ever got a full explanation or not.

I have heard of stopping someone's mail as a joke but didn't know you could cut off someone else's electricity.

I had a realtor cut off the cable tv and phone at one of my houses a week before it was turned over to the new buyers. THEIR REALTOR AND NOT MINE. She thought she would be "helpful" and just decided to start calling utilities on my behalf. My best guess was she called all of them but the only ones stupid enough to do it were the TV and phone people.

I chewed her out like there was no tomorrow.

Entergy is quite literally the biggest joke of a company I've ever dealt with. Both as their customer and them as my client.

No surprise in what you're dealing with at all. If you continue to have issues call the Public Service Commissioner and let him/her know what is going on.

Ik i've mentioned this story before but, back in college I moved into a rent house. 3-4 days after moving in I came home to no power. Got the run around about getting it back on. After many phone calls I was told the power was shut off bc the previous renter had been far behind on their bill, as well as the rental company not paying the bill while the power was on during the time the house was empty... Entergy told me they would not turn power on until they got paid. I called the Public Service Commissioner and had power turned on to my house within in an hour that evening.
