Now you have enough money to sell your house and can afford to move into an assisted living facility.

Tybee Island did this back in the 90s. Some of the stories of the long time residents who had been there most of their lives having to leave was really sad

I don't feel bad at all, that is simple supply and demand. People in this situation own an asset that has increased heavily in value. Wow, how terrible for them. If money is a problem, sell the house and downsize. Or sell the house and move 20 minutes away to a cheaper neighborhood. Or sell the house and move anywhere in the country you want to. You will have made money, and there are plenty of places in each state you can find to live comfortably. If living in that one particular house is SOOO important to you, that you will go into financial debt for it, then you are paying for a luxury and that is a clear decision. People need to grow up and take their life into their own hands.

When Kamalamadingdong suggested taxes on unrealized gains with households with assets over $100m everyone about lost their fricking minds, but we do just that when we pay taxes annually on the assessed value of our homes. Then, under certain circumstances, we get taxed on the actual gains when we sell it. What a great investment.

Yeah it’s interesting because it is forcing people to leave but tbh they aren’t paying their fair share either

What is a fair share ? The big problem with gummit spending is they will never collect enough. The more they collect the more they piss away.

At the Federal level they don't even bother collecting it before theyn piss it away.

If they rent, wait until the landlord gets through with them.
He will bend them over and won't even use lube.

Is this accurate? I have a buddy wanting to move from Oregon to Texas and he made this claim. I started looking at county appraisal websites, and was seeing deductions for veterans, but never ran across where it said 100% disabled were exempt from property taxes.

Tax exemption options vary from state to state depending on a variety of factors, and not all states in the U.S. offer full tax benefits to disabled vets. However, Texas is proud to be on the list of 18 American states that do provide 100% exemption on property taxes for veterans that qualify.

In order to achieve complete property tax exemption status, Texas veterans need to show proof of an Individual Unemployability VA status, a 100% schedular/disability VA rating, or 100% Permanent and Total VA disability status. Additionally, surviving spouses can be eligible for the same tax exemptions as long as they remain unmarried and on the property that was exempt.

Veterans who don’t quite qualify for 100% exemption can still qualify for partial exemptions on top of the standard Texas homestead exemption.

My mortgage went up $1200 per month now due to increases in property tax and home owners insurance.

Feel like I am paying NY taxes

Don’t counties usually have protections in place for homeowners above a certain age?

Many benefit from selling way above what they paid (less trash & crime if they stay), but I understand some might not want to move.

Regardless the problem isn’t gentrification it’s the exponential tax increases without voter approval which are not based on the same increase in earnings/income and also not based on increased services the homeowner receives. This is a problem outside of the gentrification context as well.

It’s a govt problem not a capitalism problem.

You mean houses that now are on 7x average salary where as Boomers and older generations houses were 3-4x average salary? Idk what older generation did to frick it up, but they really fricked it up. Almost guaranteed, something to do with selfishness.

I'd love it if by some miracle this place became gentrified. I wouldn't even object to hipsters if they raised property values.

Because he drives to his home every day on public roads and likely passes a public park and likely has gone to a stadium funded by public fun funds. Hopefully, he has not had to use the fire or police department that is also funded by property taxes. I’m sure he uses water from a water district and sewage from a sewer district that is also subsidized by property taxes. Some in some communities may use public schools which are supported by property taxes.

Dumb motherfrickers. Go buy a house in BFE and build your own roads and infrastructure and pay zero and property taxes each year While you jerk bears off by yourself
Fund it all with a national, state and local sales tax. You know, that way EVERYBODY has skin in the game instead of a few of us (like myself) who fund the leeches (like you) that suck the life out of the last high performing/ functioning individuals of the populace.

But your dumbass thinks all this shite like roads, school and police just materialized the day they codified property and income taxes. You're not even aware that property and income taxes were nowhere near the level and scope they are now, nor were they supposed to be permanent, respectively.

There are so many stupid, uneducated Americans that it has become obvious there's no coming back from this.

This bottom-of-the-barrel, parasitic citizen extolls the virtues of paying taxes to a government that, in its totality, slaughters his beloved Palestinians because the oppressive nature of taxes is a foreign concept to him because he's a failed man. What a revolting mindset to have. I cannot comprehend.

Property taxes are theft, but because you are a habitual loser in life, you'll never comprehend or care about it, because you'll always be sucking hind tit in life to even notice. It's theft by the full force of the law when there is a much better, more viable solution that won't crush productive citizens who support vermin like you, hence the entire reason for this thread: If it weren't oppressive nobody would talk about it, but a failure like yourself will never know that struggle because you think you can vote for a woman or man who'll make your failures disappear and someone else can pay enough taxes to keep your pothole filled roads and exhausted police force resources open with *THEIR* own hard earned money instead of yours.

If the ever-increasing property taxes aren't paid, even on a paid off property, a man's domain is taken: It's government theft of the most sacred of property. It's stealing, and there's a much better way, but drones like you download the propaganda and think it's the only solution because you'll never own anything and you don't know anything.

You'll own nothing, and you'll be happy until you get to the gulag. And when we get there, I'll remind you that property taxes were theft at the same time that some corporate conglomerate rents my shite out to the lowest bidder while you hope for a ration of bread because your arc in life was a low angle one, you loser.
