Settings.

Or you can get one of those Jitterbug phones for senior citizens with the WHAM! song in the commercials.

This is for android phones:

Open your Messaging app.
Tap the Menu button on the bottom right of your screen.(My menu button was on the top right, the 'three dot button")
Tap Settings and scroll down.
Tap Emergency Alerts.
Uncheck AMBER alerts. In this same menu you can disable severe weather alerts too.

I disabled mine after it going off at 2am and then at 6am. Some kid 150miles away. Somehow I don't think I'm going to spot the Taurus in my bed at 2am.

They need to re-think how those get sent out and the urgency of them. You can only cry wolf so many times before people start to ignore them.

I guess this is the same one going off in Birmingham? A person of interest was located last night. No signs of the girl, so that can't be a good sign.

I maybe get 3-4 Amber alerts a year.

They usually only send one, but for this girl in Birmingham they sent 4. Seems a little excessive when the only info they give you is black child in a Toyota 4-Runner.

Set mine on "Do Not Disturb" between 11PM and 6AM. I still get messages from anyone on my contact list.

I don't want to divorce myself from Amber Alerts but (as some have said earlier) WTH am I going to do about it at 3AM.

Same here. Sending those alerts out in the middle of the night for a kid 3+ hours away is going to eventually render the phone alerts far less useful because most people will have the notification disabled.

They should allow for a silent notification setting so I’ll still see it when I look at my phone but won’t wake everyone in the house up at 3am

You’re sleeping but the guy who’s on his way to the airport to catch the 5:30am flight, the truck driver, and the shift worker that starts at 4am isn’t. Could be one of them who spots the vehicle.

Fewer cars on the road then - maybe more likely to be spotted/identified before 7AM than after.

I think the idea is that a kidnapper may flee the area.

Do you really need someone to explain why a mass text in an area alerting to a missing child is helpful?

Cry wolf?

The amber alert goes off in areas they think the kidnapper fled to/towards.

It's not just kid got kidnapped, activate, either.

And honestly the bulletins are effective.
