Crate time. Bad behavior gets time in his crate
Absolutely incorrect. You should never, under any circumstances, crate your dog for bad behavior. A crate is a dog's safe place and should not be used for punishment. Any dog trainer will tell you this. In this case, the dog should have been crated before the incident not after. A dog should be trained to only chew his toys. Until it's trained you should not have anything available for them to chew that you're not willing to sacrifice. The failure here falls on the owner not the dog.

Punishment isn't the answer.
1) Leaving stuff you care about where your dog can get it is on you, not your dog. You're the adult in the relationship. Not trying to be a dick about this, it's just the nature of the human/dog relationship. You can't fight this.
2) She's 1 1/2 years old, usually after they hit 2 they stop trying to chew on anything that fits in their mouths. They still need to chew though. Make sure they have constant access to chew toys.
3) Make sure "Leave It" is one of the commands you practice regularly. I always treat my dogs after they drop what they took, it makes them drop stuff pretty readily most of the time.

I'd be more mad that I spent that much money on a DVD that I could stream for free.

"Dissing Your Dog" was a good skit.

I generally have working breeds. So after a few times of being pinned to the ground by their throats, a stern look is usually enough.

That's not a dog.
That's a hypoallergenic purse.
We currently have a golden retriever for my son. And he's extremely good with my son... And extremely difficult to train. He has no pride.
He'll follow me step for step offleash in public, but I'm used to dogs who don't know they are dogs. They know they have jobs and basically ignore other dogs that aren't a threat. This guy thinks every dog is his buddy.

Actually, I am a movie collector with nearly 1,000 movies and watch them on a premium OPPO player. I love action movies and dogs.
What is your method of organization, or cataloging, if you will, so that finding an unchewed movie isn't burdensome?

I have a basset hound. Trying to punish him would be futile.

LOTR was a Christmas gift from my daughters and was still in its shrink-wrapped packaging.
Sorry if my taste in movies does not appeal to you. But when you have 980+ movies you probably have pretty much a bit of every genre.
By the way, my dog practically never leaves my side. Sleeps with us, eats from my plate, sits with me in the bathroom, and is healthy and happy.
That’s why I’m asking how you punish your dogs because I can’t seem to be able to bring myself to doing it. I had to put down my best friend of 13 years last summer and this designer mutt lives like a queen.

This is the OT. We don’t punish dogs.
The US really began humanizing dogs in the 1990s. We are actually in the post-humanization era where dogs are expected to be treated better than humans. It is a strange phenomenon but the OT cares more about dogs than other humans. It borders on worship.
