And as such, you believe that person has nothing to live for. Beauty and love and life don't require a supernatural being, a god, or a Flying Spaghetti Monster to have meaning. That's just how you choose to interpret it.
But for someone that's been up in this thread trying to portray a rational and accepting position, you pretty much fricked that stance with two sentences. Honestly, there's no way you can be accepting of people with different beliefs if you believe their lives have no meaning to them.

I've never seen a beautiful work of art and not had admiration for the artist.

Nope. I think people who believe in "beauty and love and life" are believing in God in their own way. Jesus said that everything goes through him. I think it is possible to know Jesus without knowing that you know Jesus.

But the need to know the artist has caused me to search. And in searching, I have found the Church that had even more information about the artist. And a Church that encourages me to believe all fo the science you are referencing. All of the science that explains so much, but that doesn't touch on beauty and love.

I love someone based on how they treat me and treat others. Not because of the church. I find beauty in things that are aesthetically pleasing to me. I'm not totally sure what a belief in some deity has to do with either. But if religion helps you find love, peace and is the only way you can see the beauty around you, then by all means knock yourself out.

Yes. It's definitely not as simple as that. I agree. It's so difficult to have these conversations with several people and without the chance to stop and dive deeper into certain parts.
It is obviously impossible to perfectly describe it, but I think part (maybe most) of our belief in God comes from our conscience. I believe we an develop a conscience with virtues to be pretty incredible. Animals do not have near the ability we do to take it so far.

I learned long ago that morality is subjective as hell, as long as the other guy realizes the same thing, we're good.
The ones I struggle with the most are the ones who believe there's a thing called "social justice." True believers, you can't deal with them.

that's fine. It's the people that are bigots and make fun of opposing beliefs that are no friend to me. Religion is a touchy subject and many don't tread lightly when discussing it.

I think it's all respect and "you have your opinion" until you start having kids.
Of course you both want the very best for your children, so I understand why parents simply try to lead their young ones on a path that would be most beneficial.
I have a very strong sense of morality, i'd like to think. However, I won't have my wife teaching my kids that praying to a dead guy is acceptable. Deep South or elsewhere.
