I had an appt for a regular checkup and to get prescription of adderall renewed and it has been changed to telemedicine type of appt. if you can’t go to the doctors office how will I get the handwritten script they require at the pharmacy? Far as I know they don’t let you call these in, you have to have the paper

Most docs dont even use handwritten prescriptions anymore... they send it straight to the pharmacy of your choosing electronically.

Welcome to the future, boomer

Some have to be .. husband had surgery in January and son had surgery in February. BOTH times I asked if the pain meds could be called in and they said NO .. that the others could but the narcs had to be brought in by hand. I pleaded my case to try to get everything we needed before leaving the hospital and was told no both times -- surgeries were at different hospitals.

Some things just require hard scripts.

Maybe some rules will be relaxed a little for the time being.

This one uses hand written. I always have to take it and drop it off at the pharmacy before they’ll fill it.

And I’m 29 I’m not a boomer. I just live in an area where things are 30 years behind the curve

My teledoc has the info for my pharmacy and sends it directly. It usually ready within an hour or so after the appointment. They won't (unless COVID has changed the procedure) prescribe pain meds or muscle relaxers.

No, scheduled drugs can be sent electronically if the prescriber goes through the process from the DEA which allows it. It's basically like signing up to do it and setting up a 2 factor identification.

First off, at least for now telemedicine satisfies the face-to-face requirement in order to refill. Secondly, if provider is set up to e-scribe scheduled drugs, it can be done that way (not all providers are set up for this capability). If not, I would imagine they will have you go there and either bring Rx out to your car and have you sign for it, or screen you via questions and a temp and let you in to pick it up.

Uh what pharmacy requires a hand written script now?

I haven't gotten a hand written script in over 2 years....my doc just transmits my scripts to the pharmacy electronically.

ETA Maybe it is required for some drugs I guess.....seems dumb.

Actually you are. Adderall cannot be called in. I've had 2 separate Doctors over last 15ish years and Pharmacies required handwritten script for these types of medication.

some of the states(Texas) are allowing some scheduled medications while others states still require a handwritten prescription

Seems to me you should pay better attention next time you talk with your doctor.

This is the right answer.

Some docs havent done it, and some docs have but still choose not to do this with certain meds.
