How do you feel about toll roads?

Lived in Louisiana for four years to get my bachelors at LSU while my wife did grad school there and I have to say, Louisiana in general has some really shitty roads. I-10 is congested in BR all the time, US 190 runs like shite. I think a toll road or lane could be really beneficial, especially between Lafayette and Baton Rouge. Tolls could pay and maintain a road between the two cities that only those paying for could use and would allow commuters to avoid the clusterfrick of I-10. Won’t cost taxpayers anything to maintain, it’ll be maintained by those who use it.

Hold on, let me ask my chauffeur and I'll get back to you.

I just went to the Pryor,Ok area for a project and ran through 12 tolls in 3 days. The van I rented had a pike pass that worked in Oklahoma even though it has Florida plates.
Thought that was cool.
ETA: There was an alternative to taking the toll roads that was actually just as quick and much more scenic.

I love them, saves taxpayers money and those who use it pay for it!

They should have higher speed limits and people cruising in the left lane should be ticketed.
I would GLADLY pay a toll for a road like that....

Move to North Dallas.
I pay 120 a month to NTTA but I also drive like Jeff Gordon.

Most people in DFW have soured on them. I think 1 or 2 toll roads in a big urban area is fine. But when the majority of highways are tolled, its too much.

That would be just the stupid people then. The toll roads have done things TxDOT has been incapable of. If that makes you mad, take it up with TxDOT and not NTTA.
DNT and Sam Rayburn are the reason Collin County is becoming a powerhouse. George Bush has been a godsend of a road for many.

Pretty much agree with this. But, by constructing a toll road often allows for speedier construction. I have long stated that Louisiana needs a toll road and bridge over the Mississippi River linking Interstate 10 west of BR to Interstate 10 east of BR. It would pay for itself in a few years.

Well anything north of 635 is a toll so I can understand that sentiment. They are going to toll 380 too watch.

Money raised from tolls would be stolen or misappropriated ricky tick.

Love me some HCTRA and all the toll roads they maintain. As usual TX does it right.
It would never work in Louisiana. Corruption and incompetence would negate any positive effects of toll roads. Just look at what has happened to TOPS. This state could frick up an anvil, so roll roads won’t work here.

I used to be bothered by them. But since moving, I actually have grown to accept them.
The roads here are infinitely better, and the most a toll ever gets is a whopping $1. I'm fine paying that occasionally for nicer roads.
However, if I had to drive through a toll on a daily basis as a part of my work commute, that would be annoying. For me it's just the occasional trip outside the city - maybe once or twice a month.

I use them all the time. Less traffic. Saves time. Cost adds up very quickly though
