He seems like a patriot, but I'll be honest, I am ignorant as to what all he leaked out. The people that are saying that he put lives at risk: what exactly are the specifics on this claim?

There aren't any. It's hand-wringing and pearl clutching to justify the security state and spying on everyone possible.

I mean, the dude worked for all those federal agencies, connected all those channels for bulk collection and then felt really bad after he did it all?
I guess he sees his treatment as his punishment?
Either way, he connected all that and knew what he was doing. He's like Prometheus but instead of giving fire to the people, he straight up killed any resemblance of privacy we had before they began bulk collection.
If he's a hero then he's Captain Hindsight.

He should be tried for espionage.

Or do you think that what the government was doing (and continues to do) is a necessary evil? Or did the government use 911 to justify doing more than they need to?
What I can tell you is the government doesn't give one single shite that my favorite fetish on youporn is hairbrush masturbation.

I just got to the point where he gets into his first job with the CIA, but he actually worked for a contractor. In short, the CIA, FBI, NSA, etc have a budget, but when it comes to government contracts more money can go towards those so what happens is that they hire contractors who hire people to "do work" for the CIA.
He explained that his first job doing computer work, he was making $30k. So when he was hired for his first contractor job he was asked how much he thinks he is worth and he said $50k. And the guy who hired him told him "how does $60k? sound? Then the guy put his salary at $62k.. Because the more their employees make the more money the company gets because the workers are billable. He said that the way its all set up. it makes everyone happy... Except the taxpayer.. if they knew how much money was wasted through this loophole of hiring contractors.

If you are not doing anything wrong who cares if they spy on you?
Same lame logic.

I think he’s pointing out how many “small government” conservatives aren’t really small government.

Both. What he did was well intentioned I believe but it was also against the law, which says he's a traitor and he knew it was against the law. So while his intention was to try to right a wrong, in his eyes, there is no gray in the law.
He didn't care about the consequences of his actions and how they could cause harm. Was only concerned with his agenda. How we feel about his agenda has no bearing on the law.

I don't know much about him, but I don't think the government ought to keep secrets in a free society. Spies and classified material are the stuff of a dictatorship, not a democracy.

So what you are saying is the government (you know the one that works for us as citizens) can pass a law saying nothing classified can be released or you will be charged with treason.
Now the same government gets to decide what is classified and what isn't?
That doesn't sound a little fricked up to you? Let's say the CiA is doing black bag operations on us citizens that they feel are raising too much of a fuss or are a political threat. That operation is deemed classified top secret.....so you are ok with the person that leaks that being charged with treason?
Bottom line is the government (you know the ones sworn to uphold the Constitution) were clearly not following the Constitution.
Snowden gave up everything, everything, his life, family, great job, every fricking thing to stand up for the Constitution.
If anyone thinks he wasn't a patriot...well frick you!!
The government shouldn't get to decide what it keeps from the people unless Congress declares war. The people can not hold government accountable if they are hiding behind the cloak of secrecy.
Oh and taxation is theft.

Bump for the morning crowd. I want to see who else is a dumb frick.
