It is ambiguous and should rarely be used unless someone knows the exact context you use it in. Google gives a convoluted but understandable answer:

Context matters for "this Monday" and "next Monday"
If it is early in the week (e.g., Tuesday or Wednesday), both "this Monday" and "next Monday" will refer to the same upcoming Monday in the current week.

If it is late in the week (e.g., Friday), "this Monday" typically refers to the coming Monday, while "next Monday" could mean the Monday after that.

If it is Sunday, using "next Monday" almost always means the Monday of the following week, as you would say "tomorrow" for the Monday that is only a day away.

If I don't know the date off hand, I would say "meet me on Monday" if I mean 8/25 and something like "meet me a week from Monday" if I mean 9/1.

It’s a mute point anyway.

It's Tuesday. Someone says they will get something done next Monday. You take that to mean 13 days?

They should say this Monday. I think it's dumb, but that's the system. Stick to the system.

Heya, just stopped in to say you’re retarded, and I would like to ask you to never talk to anyone again, as I fear it may spread

Simple. Don’t say this Monday say next Monday. Because you’re right it wouldn’t make sense.

Bit wordier, but I find people respond better to “this upcoming Monday” and “Monday after next”.

This is so widely confused thst I no longer say either one. I either say:

This coming Monday

or

Monday after next

If I have a calendar handy where we can both look at it, I say “Monday the 25th.

This Monday is the closest Monday, whether it’s tomorrow or whether it’s 6 days out.The closest one FFS.

Next Monday is always the Monday after this Monday, no matter how far out.

Then be more specific and say this upcoming Monday

If it's Tuesday and someone refers to something as this Monday I'm assuming they meant yesterday

Obviously context clues will tell you if they're telling a story or if they're referring to something in the future

I think your methodology is a bit dated and insufficient

This Monday means this week's monday.

Next Monday means next week's Monday.

It's not complicated

Bimonthly is every two months.

Semimonthly is twice a month.

You prefer semimonthly.

Work globally.

Time and time language is so different across world!

Move mtg forward (earlier or later?)

Bi weekly or fortnightly?

Non use if sooner (or later).

Week commencing vs Next week

People frixk it up because people created their language and norms.

No one has set down rules for the way your country arse sees things.

What are you talking about? In any situation where anything important is being discussed, you should give a date for what you are talking about. Don't expect other people to think in as simple a manner as you do.

This is especially true if the only reason you do it that way is because they taught you that way when you delivered a paper route in 1970.

Don't ever get into any type of sales job if you think that's a good way to communicate with business people that way. You can't assume anyone else thinks that way.
