The new places downtown are much better. Wurst Biergarten is a fun place to hang out. Dat Dog seems a little hipsterish but they have music and shite. I've heard rumors of Bayou Teche Brewery trying to get a brew pub near Dat Dog. Central Pizza looks like it's gonna be awesome.

Same time period as Karma, which opened in big two story furniture store. It was a supposed to be a ritzy "big city" type of club and it had a healthy demographic for a while, but that changed.

Downtown is fine until 9-10pm. There's more restaurants and good places to get a drink than ever before in my lifetime, the problems are late at night. I think more so than the jail and homeless is that there are just a shite on of urban youths who want to head down there and loiter and scope out targets to rob. That started when ATC shut down a few clubs on the northside

The original rumor that I heard about Dat Dog was that they had a deal in place with Bayou Teche for the bar to be mostly BT beer and serve as a quasi brew pub. Since that didn't happen, it makes sense they'd look for a spot of their own.

That would be a good place for it but would require a new tax to build and nobody is going to vote for a tax to build a new jail. They barely renewed the tax to maintain the current one

I have no idea where OP went in Lafayette, but an inability to find a late night watering hole without hipsters and affliction shirt wearers speaks more to him than the city. That’s like saying you can’t go out anywhere in BR without being around douchey undergrad frat kids and 18 year olds using fake ID’s. Yeah if all you ever do is go to fricking Tigerland.
Scandals, Tap Room, Corner Bar, Grouse Room, Biergarten, Dat Dog, Any of the Legends, Blue Moon, Tim and Tia’s, Pour. You can go to Parish, best brewery in state and perhaps even the region, you can go to Cajun Brewing.
And that’s not counting the dozens of restaurants that basically serve as places to get hammered. Lafondas, Don’s, Pamplona’s, Tsunami, Social, the Agaves, etc. I’m not even a huge fan of all these places, but they’re all places that are “going out” or at least “going out” adjacent in Lafayette that are not even remotely affliction or super hipster crowds.

Its a shame they shut down that Mello Joy coffee shop that used to be on Jefferson Street. I think it was where that tapas restaurant is today.

Reve is better and has a pretty nice shop on the opposite end of Jefferson. You baws who are complaining need to come down to Po Boy fest in a month and see the improvements

If you were into that type of crowd maybe. From about 94-01 IMO the strip killed The Plaza.
The strip was around and had a variety of styles of bars since before I was in high school (that was 76-80). The plaza suffered the same fate most of the bars that catered to a specific crowd usually does, fads change faster though than owners do and most of the regular crowd starts to adult in a serious fashion at some point.
They guy who owned the Plaza (at least at one point) was reputed to be a serious coke head and I think his habit got in the way of his business. The strip died a slow death as the 18 year old drinking age began to be tightened up and enforced.
