How was it different from the late 90’s? To me the more glaring differences have been in the past 7-9 years.

There's a lot more money being poured into downtown for LPD to continue to ignore the problems down there. Rock N Bowl, Dat Dog, the new pizza/beer place that will be open near The Greenroom, the new brewery on Buchanan, etc. I'd hope at some point the Downtown association tries to get them to be proactive. Hell, I thought the shooting and robberies during festival international would've sparked some kind of change but I was wrong.

Jule's isn't Jule's anymore. New name, but can't recall it though. Not sure if it has the same identity as the old Jule's.

Sad to hear this. Not sure what changed to spark so much crime and uneasiness. I would never feel unsafe or uncomfortable walking around past midnight back when I would go out of Jefferson street circa 2002-2004 or so.

Roothogs opened in 2002.
Sidebar, Jule's had been there way before that.
Also, when Chris's Poboys was still downtown, mostly a lunch spot, they were open as a bar at night. They actually had music/jam sessions there.
Don't know how much Antler's was a bar destination other than on Fridays for Downtown Alive.
