Why does he have one in the first place if sliding isnt even allowed?

Attend the game, show him support, let his coach handle all the details.

Let the boy live, grow and learn. Maybe he'll realize that if he's not sliding, the pads are just more encumbrance, and that it's just silly. If not, who cares?

Don't try to engineer his life, helicopter parents suck balls.

I tend to think all that crap like sliding pants are just silly and I wouldn't let my kid wear any of that. I still think I'm right, but hell let the kid play dress up if he wants to.
