I'm sure the government would love to hear this from you. You do know that is completely illegal, right?

Maternity leave in all honesty should be twelve weeks minimum and it shouldnt be shite on and frowned upon like it is in this country.

We've come along way on that, but companies still frick over new moms pretty regularly.

Thats all fine and dandy, but from a business perspective this is a huge risk. What if mom decides she wants 4-5 kids and they get popped out back to back? you are essentially paying a worker 12 months salary for working 8 for multiple years. I understand that time off is necessary for such a life changing thing, but where is the line or is there?

Perfect example: Coworker complained bc she wanted a raise, looked for another job and threatened to leave. They gave her the raise to stay. No more than a few weeks later, she gets pregnant. Now she is complaining because of the maternity leave. Meanwhile every male comes in here every day and doesnt miss hours at a time weekly for doctors visits, consultations, etc.

I highly doubt some court will see his anonymous posts on a message board and they come up in some sort of lawsuit.

Yeah, that's not sustainable.

I'd like to see your research that supports this statement.

So many amateur economists. Smh.

It doesn't have to be 12 weeks paid. But you shouldn't lose your job over it.

A woman having a kid every 10 months 5 times in a row is rare. And I agree that it's an extreme example and it would need special attention.

But having one or two kids a couple years apart like most people do is the norm.

My team faced this with two ladies in Europe for about 4 years. It was a major pain in the arse. As a team of 6 having two people you can't rely on was a major strain. They got something like 6 months off. I even think it was paid. Two of us eventually moved elsewhere in the company so we could get some sort of stability.

Link? Have you seen how much I pay in taxes?

You say it's $3 a year. $3 a year per employee isn't sustainable when they're getting 8 weeks of compensation for sick/maternity.

Are you familiar with the phrase "preponderence of evidence"?

As a business owner you should be aware of how easily it is to get sued.

GeauxJudge says otherwise.

And no, I think extended maternity leave puts a strain on your coworkers. It's an inconvenience. If you want me to continue to pull the weight of the office, pay me for it. When I was younger, pretty much one of the reasons I left a job. 15 females between 23-40. No shite. In two years, 14 pregnancies.

And people wonder why our generation aren't trustful of companies. God forbid a woman who pays her damn taxes and is happily married brings life into the world and fulfills her dreams of a family. Stop being so fricking selfish and let her have a kid and give her the financial support to do it so long as she's been a good employee to you. It should go both ways. Yeah, your employees may have to work a tad bit harder to take up the slack, but happy and good employees help each other out when it's something as big as that.

Big office? Big employer? You're going to be hard pressed to find a small business who is going to hire a pregnant secretary to leave 6 weeks later for 12-16 weeks.

No. He hasn't. It's quite obvious. The lawyer circling around in here probably hasn't either.

Actually I was mistaken, I double-checked and it's a dollar a week- $52/year. And it's 12 weeks of pay at 66% of salary up to $848/week.

I'm not sure where I fall on legislation to make it a mandatory paid 13 weeks (like FMLA), but I do encourage businesses to invest in the lives and the families of their employees by offering generous and competitive maternity and paternity leave.

For young professionals, especially those talented ones considering their career options while starting a family, 13 weeks (three months) paid maternity leave and 2-3 weeks paid paternity leave are great attractions. And the business itself creates a culture of treating its employees like humans by investing in their lives and families.
