I'm fine with it as long as it is company provided, not government mandated.

I feel like the federal government has no business mandating leave.

Let the states decide for themselves.

NY just enacted a law where everyone pays into essentially an insurance fund for paid medical family leave. It can be for the birth of child, or taking care of a sick relative. You only qualify obviously if you're working. Last I checked it was like $3.00/year. Essentially it's run very similarly to unemployment or workers comp.

I don't see the big problem with it, as most employers let their employees take off for FMLA already- the state just makes it paid.

Companies should want to offer at least some time. That is such a major life transition that work performance would definitely be affected otherwise.

I plan on asking for telecommuting privileges in lieu of paternity leave.

Yeah, that's not sustainable.

Why would a business want to hire someone they know they will be forced to give 8-12 weeks paid leave every year or two?

Why the frick would I need more than about a week off when my wife has a baby?

Men are supposed to be providers, not pansies. And the way I provide is by going to work and earning a paycheck.

Not mad at all. I don't plan on getting myself in a position where it affects the performance of my business. So, it's not really a problem for me.

Sometimes your wife has a full time job and is in school and has to get back to school. Why should she have to give all that up just so the man can keep working?

It's 2016. Women do more than stay in the kitchen, and that's not a bad thing.

He is saying if the government forced maternity leave for 3-4 months. Especially paid, why would they hire a woman when they could likely find an equally qualified candidate that is a male and won't be taking off a few weeks after getting hired?

If forced, it will only hurt women.

Yes it is against the law, but good luck proving it.

Uhhh, because she has a baby to take care of and her baby needs her more than daddy. Duh!

Are you familiar with FMLA? That's the law already- it's simply not paid at the moment.
