You ever had the one who takes the paid vacation, leave and shows up the day she returns and turns in her resignation? Has happened twice in my career. That's awesome.
Sounds like you're a shitty boss and people don't want to work for you.

I had 6 months off with bother of my girls. It was incredible. Men are offered the same leave at my facility.

Was never the boss when that happened, broseph

the difference between good employers and shitty one
It has to do with resources. Big office? Big employer? You're going to be hard pressed to find a small business who is going to hire a pregnant secretary to leave 6 weeks later for 12-16 weeks.

small business with 6 employees...

My boss only wanted me to use 3 days of sick time for leave after my son was born. Unfortunately, my wife had the worst degree tear possible, and I needed to be home for her.
When I showed up after 3 days the office manager sent me home for the rest of the week and told me not to worry about my boss.
A few months after that my boss changed the company policy to officially only allow three days of sick time. All other time was to be vacation or in paid leave.

Point still stands.

Yeah. I can make shite up to for an argument. Congrats. You found the most benevolent small business ever.

No because you said this.

Especially true. We had one girl take off 16 weeks back when I worked at state. You would think she got cut open and has complications. Nope. Right out the pussy.

Or maybe you're just an a-hole.

Real world talking truth. Internet world doesn't like it.

Are you talking about what Salmon said, and your reaction to what he said?
Posted on 8/10/16 at 9:37 am to LNCHBOX
I'm saying my argument is based in real world facts. Some internet doofus whose company is also paying for Disney World is not the norm. It just validates my argument that's an outlier.
And I'm sorry you can't afford to let your wife stay home and you need those extra few dollars. But DupontCircle ain't having it.

No it isn't.

An entire office being slighted by a new mother taking time off is not the norm either.

Your opinion is also an outlier.

Ah, took you long enough to go with the classic OT insult. Congrats on finally getting there.

That's better than nothing. I wasn't allowed to use sick leave when my kids were born.
The only I would like to see changed is the ability to use sick leave for paternity leave rather than being forced to use annual. I'd put a cap of 40 hours on it, which I think is reasonable.
The people earned the time, it's not like they are asking for for something unearned.

definitely
but it also kinda illustrates the point that if the employer treats their employees with respect and appreciation, it is normally reciprocated
I'm with you that none of this should be government mandated, but employers shouldn't bitch about this either if they want good employees

You just seem really mad about this argument. I've worked in a professional setting with a smaller office with predominately younger females. It's an inconvenience. Is what it is. Whether you think it's justified or not isn't my problem. Send your wife to work with Salmon's. Maybe she'll get to visit Universal too.

Should Paternity and Maternity leave be equal
Government shouldn't force it on companies. It will have unintended consequences.
My company offers a week of paternity. I take it, though I was working in the hospital for both kids, so it's kind of a joke with my position. I do have the flexibility to work my schedule out to work remotely.
They offer maternity leave, though I have no clue how much. In six years with my company, no women have had children.
Maternity should definitely be longer than paternity imo, though again, nothing should be forced.
