My coworker’s son had to work for 8 months at a correctional facility before he could be hired onto the force.

Not difficult or demanding at all. Majority of my day is spent on here or playing FarmVille, with a few meetings sprinkled in.
FYI: Project Mgt. Once you know how to use P6, it’s cake.

A lot of them in Louisiana work EOW and 2 weeks days 2 weeks nights. It sucks, but it can get you the experience you need to go federal.

Lol not at all. One of the main reasons I took the job. Went from working seven days a week sun up to sun down building my own business, to sitting in an AC building by myself with an hour of paperwork and a few people a day to sell to. It's amazing. I'm good at it too, so makes it more fun. If you cant sell the job would suck major donkey dick.

I pretty much play Sims with a sprinkle of analysis all day. I'd say not much.

I only work approximately 4-5 hours a day most days. Sometimes less and sometimes more. I’m one of the lucky ones.

ETA: My post count indicates how much free time I have.

Mostly my fault over the past twenty-plus years.

Not sure if it's similar to Kentucky, but maybe the pay is less, but the retirement is amazing, you can retire with full benefits/pension at 20 years, so 40 year olds are retiring and then becoming like security and making bank.

Hang in there bud, i'm in a similar spot and now starting to look around after being here almost 2 years. The constantly putting out fires rings a bell, it's like people can't see the shitshow that's ongoing or about to happen.

I work for one of the big 4, so somewhat difficult and can be very demanding at times. Counting down until I can make the move to private.

I thought state troopers were starting out over 60k and could creep up near 6 figures eventually? Could be completely wrong as I don’t know any.

Network. Sending out an obnoxious amount of resumes. Only takes 1.

It is. Applying for a new job can be a full time job in and of itself. But persistence and patience will pay off in the end.

It took me 6 years to finally catch a break in the field I wanted to be in.

I just retired at 62 because I got tired of working 10-14 hours days in a salaried job. If I could have received overtime, my job would have easily been 6 figures...

Not too bad.

I get up, slip into my dirty work clothes and a ball cap, drive my new F150 to the parking lot down the street from the corner. Park it, pick up my hand lettered cardboard sign and walk to the traffic light. Cars stop, dollar bills (sometimes fives and occasionally tens, once a 50) are passed out the window by guilt ridden folks. after about 6 hours, I walk back to the truck, drive home, slip into some clean clothes and turn on the tube.
