They have both passed away. The disabled sister passed in 2016 at the age of 64 (doctors told my mom she would not likely see 30 years old) and the other passed away in 2018 from metastatic breast cancer.

Dad was working in Beaumont Tx in 1927. Mom was a waitress in a cafe where he ate breakfast.
He was fond of describing how her butt swayed back and forth when she walked - would emulate the motion with his hands.
Mom didn't really appreciate that description, so it was only rarely that he brought it up - memorable.
But he did say she was the best waitress - and hardest worker - he ever saw. And I do believe that.
She was a remarkable woman - smart (and thin) as a whip - worked every day of her life from dawn to dusk - never threw anything away - After she died we found a drawer in the back room full of burned out light bulbs - she was 'saving' them for something.
As I reflect back, she had a tremendous influence on my early life = "Use it up - wear it out. Make it do or do without." = "Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words will never hurt them." She found out I was playing marbles 'for keeps' when I first started to school - and made me give all of my marbles away. Really miss her. Glad my kids got to know her.
Truly remarkable woman - lived to be 97 - still going strong, but suffered from dementia last two years.

I never asked and I figured it wasn’t a storybook meeting since I never heard about it. Probably was an affair when my mom was already married with 2 kids.

Introduced by friends. Strangely, my mom and stepdad were introduced by the same friends after my dad died.

My mom was a nurse on Guam. My dad was the unfortunate victim of attempting to land a B-29 with two engines out on the same wing. It didn't go well, although he was assured in training that it was a survivable landing.
Mayhem ensued ...
Six children, including my dumb arse, followed. Go figure ....

Mom moved from Colorado to small town Louisiana due to my grandfather’s work. My dad, who grew up in said small town, noticed the new girl with nice legs while he was working in the high school snack bar. Luckily for him, the guy he worked with in the snack bar was friends with the only friend my mom had made since moving. He set them up and here I am…
