Most of my dogs have been from a shelter or rescue but I’m looking for a specific kind of puppy this time.

How did you find your dog?

Bought him from a breeder friend.

I wanted a Red Golden Retriever to hunt with.

Rescue of sorts. Breeder recovered him from person who originally bought him....

Dumbass was ruining him, left chained up in the back yard because he was jumping up on his young daughter. chained instead of training....helluva way to treat any dog....let alone an English Springer... took less than a week to train him out of 99% bad habits.

We buy from a breeder with dogs chipped. I’d prefer a shelter pick up but I lost that battle with the wife

Wife found her at the ballpark about 6 months before we started dating.

Lab/Pit puppy living underneath the bleachers with a belly full of pine needles.

She'll be 10 this spring. Two metal knees. All in I'd say we've spent 10-12k on her.

Did some research on reputable breeders and went from there. I have all Labs from a trainer who also is a breeder. My daughter wanted a Golden Retriever for her college graduation present so I did some research and talked to a few breeders with good reputations. Ended up getting him from a place in Texas, no regrets whatsoever.....except now my wife wants a pup from there.

Bought one from a local breeder the other was from the shelter. Next one will probably be a shelter dog as well.

12 years ago. 5 am in the morning something darted behind my truck when I parked at work. Shut the door and saw him shaking and shivering. Brought him inside my office. feed him and put a towel for him to lay on. Been my best buddy ever since..

I was walking my other dog and this dude came around the corner at about as fast as a dog can go. He’s not a small fella and can be rather intimidating. I thought “aw hell here we go”

He was pretty emaciated and looked like he’d never had a bath and he’s got a wound on his neck where he tore through the rope I guess. It looked like he hadn’t eaten in weeks.

Dude runs up like he’s known us for ever “where have you guys been!?”

Came home with us and been there since. Best dog ever.

Friend gave up some pups, best dog I ever had.

Another one was found in a ditch by my daughter. A pup barely could walk.

old baw from Metarie had an add in the paper for golden doodle puppies. Went with the wife (no pics) and kids to check them out and the runt of the litter came stumbling out and sat in front of my son. She has been the best dog in my lifetime. Go ahead and send the hate because I didn't adopt, she is a good dog.

One is a pit-mix mutt that was a stray near the school where I used to work. One is a collie-mix mutt that was dumped in a plastic bin at a park across the street.

Pit is 10, collie is 6. Both have been amazing dogs, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

dog rescues in Alabama.
If you're looking for a specific breed, Google "dog rescue [breed] [my state]".

Legit rescues interview prospective owners thoroughly to make sure they'll take good care of the dog.

If the rescue seems disorganized or shady - or if the adoption fees seem unreasonably high - find a different rescue.
