What happened?

On the subway today, a man came up to me to start a conversation.

He made small talk, a lonely man talking about the weather and other things.

I tried to be pleasant and accommodating, but my head hurt from his banality.

I almost didn't notice it had happened, but I suddenly threw up all over him.

He was not pleased, and I couldn't stop laughing.

Parents stopped disciplining their children in the past 30 or so years.

“We don’t believe in spanking. We’re going to build the self esteem of our child.” - my neighbors in the 1990s

Sounds to my like all the people that are bitching about the younger generation being soft are actually the soft selfish ones. Sorry millennials don’t care about you

Around here, if you hold the door for a black woman, 99% they just eat that shite up. Smiles, thank you's, etc.

That has been my experience. As I was leaving Cracker Barrel recently I held the door for a Black family. The teenage daughter said, Thank you Sir. I was impressed. I don't remember anyone being rude or ungrateful in this area when greeted with a smile and an offer of help.
When hunting I lost my beagle. An hour later a young man called and said he had the dog. I asked where he lived and he said, I'm going to Wal Mart, meet me there and I will save you a trip.
You hear so much complaining about rude people, it surprises me when I meet so many nice individuals.
There has always been good people. In 1967 I was in the Navy, stationed in Charleston, SC. I went down town to a movie. When I came out of the movie my Car wouldn't start. Some Black teenagers were standing around and one asked me my problem. I told them my battery is dead. He said, there is a service station two blocks away, we will push you. They all gathered around my 63 Chevy convertible and pushed me two blocks to the service station. I tried to pay them and they refused payment.
Its a damned shame we don't see more stories like that on the News rather than the Race Baiters and BLM crowd.

Same difference. Safe spaces were popularized when you were in college.

It seems like my dad and grandfather instilled common manners into their children. My father grew up poor and was one of seven children. Back in the early 1950’s there was hard work and respect for your elders. Dad joined the army in 1960 and served in Germany. He had a lot of anger that manifested into alcoholism but he was tough and worked to put a nice roof over our heads.

I miss the 1980’s. I miss writing a letter to my girlfriend 300 miles away. I miss long collect calls after 7 pm. Kids today want instant gratification and no responsibility. The internet is a blessing but social media can be a curse too.

Families need to spend time witch each other and actually talk about history. Kids don’t have the fear of being drafted into Vietnam or Afghanistan. Too many have so much time on their hands they think of imaginary genders.

I am afraid of where this country will be emotionally in around 50 years.

Is this topic specifically about black folks? I feel like it is intended to be.

No, but there does seem to be a larger percentage of blacks who fall into this category.

Before you call me racist, I’m black and spend the majority of my time around black people.

I live in north La, and work 2 jobs that deal with the public, vast majority of people are very polite to me. Also fam and I stay busy and always doing whatever in the public. I very seldom come across rude people. And for the other comments on here, the by far vast majority of parents I know don’t mind beating their kid’s arse if they act up.

Just b/c someone once posted a dumb blog on TD about a family who doesn’t spank or discipline their kids doesn’t mean the rest of the country is like that. And yes, kids still play outside where I’m from, where my parents and siblings live, also where my friends and in laws live, all the kids stay outside and play. Just like we use to
