Rapists didn’t help.

My boss had one of those up until about 10 years ago. They used it for vacations. Had the pot smoke vent, shag carpet, cocktail table, and everything.

Used to love those.

I think the closest modern equivalent is the Kia Carnival.

The minivan class really stumps most suvs as far as comfort of travel goes. But they still can't hold a candle to those old conversion vans.

Now we get this for 110k when a conversion van accounted for inflation would be max 40-50k

I grew up in the 80's-90's and my dad must have loved those things, because we had 2. one in the 80's and when it died, he got another one.

No self respecting white girl would be caught dead pulling up at ball practice sipping her Starbucks and putting on her makeup and checking the DMs in that gross monstrosity.

I remember a friend's family had a Ford conversion van with a TV, VCR, Atari, and refrigerator. It was the favorite ride for any event. Of course kids didn't wear seat belts back then, and we'd all pile around the back like we were in the corner of a lounge.

My dad always bought a brand new Ford Econoline van about every 4 years. Those things were awesome and a lot of fun when I got in my teenagers years and was allowed to borrow it. You could fit a keg and a lot of people in those.

I tried to talk my wife into a 2500 express van instead of an SUV. Cheaper and so vastly more practical.

Bet yall can guess how that ended up going.

Big part of it - conversion vans were done by a conversion third party. The big three saw the third parties were printing money and decided to bring that in-house by taking pickup trucks and making Navigators and Escalades out of them.

The average passenger car makes something like $3000-5000 in profit if that. The average truck-based luxury SUV brings something like $30,000-40,000 in profit. It's a no brainer.

Also an SUV is so much cooler than a van according to pop culture. Don't tell most people that their car-based SUV is basically a minivan with a swinging door etc...

You always buy first and deal with the consequences later. Just make it financially practical where she can’t get too mad.

every vacation i took as a child was in a Ford Econoline. We went either east or west, all the way up to Montana. Great memories in that thing.

Remember taking one from LA to FL to Disney in the late 80's. Best road trip ever.

My grandmother’s husband had one. I loved it had several windows on the roof as well. But he was a mean SOB and would barely let us ride in it.

The entire purpose of those things seemingly was fricking on the lay down bed.

To me, the biggest problem with vans: The design makes them hard to work on.
Toyota had a model for a while with a cab that tilted. You could get to everything on the engine easily. I wanted one of those.

My girlfriend and I are trying to build a campervan. Ford E350. So far we've been to Arkansas/Oklahoma a few times and Tennessee/North Carolina once.

We had a Mark III when I was a kid. It was the shite on those family road trips to FL.
