Beaumont is a shithole. Lafayette>LC>Beaumont

You ever been to Lake Charles?

What Rancho stated and this...Both correct...Still questioning why airport wasn't moved to Chennault after Rita destroyed it...Runway at Chennault can handle any aircraft flying today, including Space Shuttle...

It truly is amazing how Lafayette has been spared for the most part when it comes to tropical systems compared to Lake Charles

That I-10 bridge through Lake Charles should be off-limits for motorists. It was dangerous in the 1950's and far moreso now. The loop is the only sensible travel option.

Lake Charles has done a nice job rebounding. They’ve redone a lot of downtown and there is plenty of money there
Well if you compare it to Louisiana standards, then yeah I guess Lake Charles is doing pretty good now.

LC is thriving to the north and south, not much left in the city. But the old downtown is nicer. Remember when it was closed for walking only. The former Home of the Best Sandwich ever, Darrell's roast beef po-boy.

I lived in Lake Charles and this is what I was told. I liked Lake Charles and it’s a lot better now than when I lived there or it was before the hurricane. The view from the interstate is pretty bad but lafayette looks shitty from the interstate as well.

What’s the pension like at 24 hour Fitness?

Darrell’s is still open.
Correct answer is 2 fold…Lafayette got the oil money like others have said but it also has the I-49 corridor which helps. Second is 3 major hurricanes in 15 years period. Lafayette is much further inland so it survives storms better. But recently LC has had a boom in Natural Gas and the casinos. If you’re judging LC by what you see along I-10 you are vastly underestimating it. In my book LC and Laf are the top 2 places to live in the state and possibly the only 2. We still have great public schools here unlike most places in the state.

So your opening response is Darrell’s is still open?

The route I-10 takes through the Lake Charles area doesn't do it any favors. It looks extremely depressing. Does it represent most of Lake Charles? I have no idea.
One of the very first things you see when entering LC is a gutted, abandoned hotel right off the interstate. Then for the next mile or so it's beat to shite shotgun shacks. Not the best first impression.

I was shitting on lake chuck, I like it fine, good fishing spots. My wife hated it.
But this is 100% true:
For many years there were a handful of families with money that controlled what came in and what they were able to keep out. If they couldn’t get their share of it, it wasn’t welcomed.
LC was completely controlled by a few old grey hairs that didn’t give a shite about development growth etc.

Willie Mount (D) had a ton to do with changing that mentality in LC. The town isn’t nearly as Pretentious as Laffy but does lack in the food department. Overall, I have enjoyed living in LC over Laffy.
