90 out of 100 people I see driving a truck don't need one, have no use for one, don't live on a farm, don't haul anything, don't tow anything, and for some reason (why I don't know) just think trucks are cool.
I drove an f150 for years and now have a shitty little car. I can think of sooooo many instances where having a truck would have been better than my gay little car.

Calm down, Karen. It was a general you and not you in particular.
My point is still valid and you are being a whiny bitch getting all rustled over semantics.
That's just it; it's not a valid point. Multitudes of goods and services are purchased and maintained irrespective of need, and people make bad financial decisions regardless. If they can afford it, then who cares? You, apparently.

I mean, people can drive whatever they want.
I need to do 0-60 on 2.9, but I damn sure want to.
And last time I checked, this is America.

BMW is 3.99, which is decent.
And nobody is paying full MSRP anymore.

If you own a home and don't pay people to do everything for you having a truck is awesome.

I'm pretty sure the two hoes that flew by in a beat up Altima are going to kill someone before grandpa in his 2010 King Ranch with 25k miles on it.

Last week a good friend in car sales was finishing up all the financing paperwork with a buyer. As he hands her the keys, she asked him: "What the note be, with the late fee"

See my posts about everyone on the OT getting offended by data and screaming they are the exception.
I never said you can't buy what you want, I just said the vast majority of people driving trucks don't need trucks. It's a true statement and the OT got triggered like a bunch of snowflakes.

And who is the "us" that is being killed?

A CR analysis of industry data shows that the hood height of passenger trucks has increased by an average of at least 11 percent since 2000 and that new pickups grew 24 percent heavier on average from 2000 to 2018. On some heavy-duty trucks, such as the Ford F-250, the front edge of the hood is now 55 inches or more off the ground—as tall as the roof of some sedans. New CR data shows that drivers have poorer front sight lines, creating a blind spot that can hide a pedestrian or smaller car right in front. “These trends are alarming,” says William Wallace, CR’s manager of safety policy. “Automakers must put safety first for people inside and outside the vehicle.”
More than 42,000 people were killed and 4.8 million seriously injured on U.S. roadways last year, an 8 percent increase from the year before, despite a decrease in miles traveled. Pedestrian fatalities rose 46 percent over the past decade, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association, and the deaths reflect societal inequities. Low-income people are more likely to be struck; elderly pedestrians and wheelchair users are at higher risk of mortality when hit by a vehicle; and Black, Hispanic, and Indigenous people are overrepresented in pedestrian crash fatalities.
The reasons for the rising death toll are complex, with many variables, including more driver distraction. But a growing body of research indicates that the increasing dimensions of pickups may be contributing to the deadliness of crashes, especially when one hits a person, cyclist, or smaller vehicle.

How are you frickers affording 70k+ Ford Expeditions and Chevy Tahoes?
Not really my business, and I can't really explain the financial position of the people you are observing but I can provide a high level view of what our situation was.
We have a GMC Yukon SLT 4x4. The MSRP was about 1/7th of our total gross annual income. I didn't like spending that kind of money, but it wasn't really a problem for us. Compared to the vehicles my wife initially wanted (Range Rover, Mercedes GLS, Tesla Model X), the Yukon is vastly more practical, more reliable, more capable in every way, easier to service locally, and cost far less to acquire and insure. We briefly considered a Toyota Sequoia but it just wasn't as good of an option for our needs.
We ordered it from a reputable local dealer that conducts business with with us, with businesses owned by our extended family, and with businesses owned by our friends. That dealer's owners donate time and money to the same school that our child attends, and sponsors a lot of local events and causes that we also back. We got a reasonable, but not an excellent deal on the vehicle. It's been very reliable for us, and it's been an excellent vehicle for us. We'll eventually get another one in 8-10 years. If that dealer sold Fords or Chevrolets, we'd have probably gotten a similar vehicle from one of those brands instead of a GMC.
For us it was the practical choice - it does everything we need it to do and does it very well.
To be honest we can afford replace our other, smaller vehicle with another Yukon or a full sized truck like a Tundra or Sierra - but we have no need for two vehicles that can tow 4+ tons. I don't know many people who actually need two full sized trucks/SUVs.
If might have been able to buy a cheaper, smaller crossover to meet our passenger hauling needs (with reduced space and comfort), we'd have to upgrade the other vehicle (a Toyota SUV that we love) to a full sized pickup to meet our towing requirements.
We like our vehicles and don't care if our decisions or choices offends others.

Man, I use mine almost every weekend. I can back it into my back yard and trim trees and bushes and just toss them into the bed.
That's a random use case I do maybe twice per year but there are many others.

In the absolute sense of the word, no, nobody needs a truck among many other things. Please start setting aside all the things you don't need then. I'm sure there's many, but you have them because they make your life easier. It's an incredibly narrow view of the value a truck provides to people.

Of course. There are many reasons why a truck is useful. These two clowns are just trying to be contrarian.

i think people spend a stupid amount of money on trucks. Also, MFGs make increasing impractical trucks just to squeeze more money out of the customer. A lot of that is because emission standards push them to make bigger trucks.
that said, i miss having a truck everytime i have to run to lowes or the handful of times a month i got to run product to a customer
