This is why I don't go to churches. I can't sit there and watch some old lady give her money away to a con man.
What if the amount of "good" she receives in whatever form it may take is worth the money to her? I look upon religion the same as the placebo effect with drugs. If a person suffers from some mystery malady and for lack of any other viable medical treatment is given a placebo and they in their mind get better should they be told that what they are taking has no effect whatsoever on their perceived ailment? I have seen many people be able to live through the tragic loss of family members and devastating illness because of their faith, should the only thing that provided them some piece of mind be taken away because it is not measurable in the physical workd? This is how I view religion and I am a almost life long atheist.

They need to stop holding up Highland traffic every fricking Sunday with cops. Let them get out of the parking lot on their own like every other church in Baton Rouge.

There is a pastor who has increased his messages on Southern Sports Radio and 680 the Fan. He calls it "Right from the heart". Today he had his 15 second clip ranting against prosperity preaching saying it's not the teachings of Jesus.
I have no dog in the fight as my personal relationship with God is done outside of the church.

Do the machines charge a processing fee like an ATM? If I use one of these church ATM's do I get reward points that can be redeemed for better seats during the service or for events held at the new Dino Arena?

they're making insane amounts of money taking advantage of their congregation that looks up to them as a leader.Anyone in a leadership position shouldn't be morally corrupt.
Just look hos preachers in poor black neighborhoods are living compared to their congregation.
Congregation walking/riding buses to church and the fricking preacher thinks it's ok to drive his Benz up to church every Sunday.
That preacher woman, Joyce Meyer..
This is a little bit about her wealth..

Matthew 19
Parable of the rich man. Jesus asked him to give up all his wealth and follow him.
23Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is difficult for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
Jesus didn't deal with percentages, but what's in your heart that mattered.
We both know that isn't tithe, but I'll play this game.
quote:
The Rich and the Kingdom of God
16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”
18 “Which ones?” he inquired.
Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’[c] and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]”
20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
So, the Bible (Specifically Jesus) says you need to give 100% of your income and possessions to the church (It was the poor, not the church plus it was a faith test after he told Jesus he had kept ALL the commandments). But let us say for a minute you where right, you immediately contradict yourself and say it what's in your heart not a percentage that matters. So, do I follow LSUBanker or do I follow the Bible?
In this passage Jesus didn't ask for one cent. I asked where does it say in the New Testament how much an individual should tithe to the Church and when you can't find it tell me what the Old Testament says. I think you would be a little surprised by what you find.
My point is simple, preachers (con-men) get up on a pulpit and ask for tithes and offerings and people feel a duty to give it to them without question. They even pressure family and friends to do the same but they can't even show you where it's in the Bible. They just believe it to be so. This is why I can only assume most have not read the Bible.

If you don't trust "organized religion," would you give 10% of your income to the poor? Do you disagree with giving to support mission work?
The new testament Church in Acts was selling land and sharing all things in common to support one another.
I feel like 10% is a pretty sweet deal compared to that!

I have no problem giving money to the poor, in fact many hard working Americans do. Who do think funds welfare, Medicare, disabilities payments, and child care services. Most people have no problem in doing this, usually when they complain it is about fraud or laziness.
My complaint wasn't about trust. It was about con-men and the people who believe what he says instead of what is in the book they say they believe in. Unfortunately many don't really know what the book actually says.
10% huh....Where did you get that number from?
