. Most of them are very well off. One lives down the street from me. He drives a $100K + truck and his wife a very nice Porsche. Not struggling at all.
You’d be shocked how many use their farm loans to purchase that shite or pay the notes. Doesn’t mean they’re cash flush
However it’s their own fault if they’re in a bind and blew their money instead of putting some back. When I make profit on catfish I put some of it up in a CD at the bank so it’s there for future collateral if I need additional credit to get through a tough year or two

Farmers make up 1.2% of employment in America. Seems like more than farmers elected Trump genius.
Are farmers supposed to vote for democrats like Kamala or Biden when their rhetoric shows they hate us and their climate change policies seek to destroy many of us

Politicians. They can swing elections in the plains states.

We aren't importing Mexican beef due to screwworm. Screwworm has not infected Brazilian cattle, it's just expensive af to import from there thanks to tariffs.
Wrong. New World screwworm is an endemic in Brazil. It’s always been in South America and recently expanded north to Central America and Mexico causing us to stop importing from Mexico. We eradicated it in the 1960s in U.S. and have kept it contained to south of Mexico for decades.

Not at all. The alternative of voting for a democrat would have been a lot worse in the long run. As bad as things are right now we made the right choice. The long game as long as we’re still here will be well worth it.

Also this farming crisis is a product of both Biden and Trump administrations this problem started before Trump took office but he has made it worse also.
Its a product of 50 years of failed ag policy over multiple administrations
This train has been running out of control for a while, now it just went off the tracks
Notice how very few media, people talking to the media, politicians ever talk about changes that need to be made systematically
They want to keep it this way

I work in finance in a small community in Louisiana which depends on farming. Input cost higher than ever and only getting higher paired with terrible commodity prices have made for a very tough situation for farmers. Even with record yields this year some farmers may not be able to go on. The last 2 years have also not been kind with flooding and drought conditions in the state. We finally have a great crop and the prices bottom out. There are whispers of a possible government payment that will lessen the sting but most farmers are in a tight spot right now.

There is a fourth, and most likely, possibility, brother Delta: those farms will continue to be bought out by large industrial/conglomerate farms, consolidating more and more of our country's food supply into the hands of mega corporations.
Facilitating corporate conglomerates in buying out smaller businesses seems to almost be the design of the tariffs.
The big guys can absorb all the skyrocketing costs until they absorb the smaller businesses that can't.

dude, china not buying any soybeans now because of the tariffs, they were 50 percent of the exports, now zero

This will happen in the Midwest more than anywhere. It doesn’t happen here in the delta. Larger family operations will buy out smaller ones but it will stay in the hands of delta people. Delta folk have never liked outside money coming here and will do everything to prevent it.

Same for cattle rustling. Local Facebook page said 9 steers were stolen two nights ago.
My wife is hyper-vigilant. There's a gate to one of the pastures about 1/2 mile south of the house. You can kind of see it from the upstairs. 2 a.m.: "there are car lights by the gate." I watch, and they are definitely there. So, I grab dogs and pistol and drive up there. I ended up scaring the shite out of the two Mexicans who work for the guy that leases the cow pasture. They were up there drinking beer. I told them it was cool but they left anyway LOL.
I thought I had some cow thieves.

If you are honest as a group you voted for him because you knew he would lift regulations like environmental, make it easier for subsidies and if the market goes bad....bail you out
You didn't count that the immigration crackdown would have a less than a desirable effect on the labor supply and the tariffs would have your customers overseas to explore using other suppliers.
I mean did you guys think that the Chinese wouldn't attempt to try this given the fact that the US farmer is not the only soybean player in the game.....or did you count on it so that you guys could get easy money
Not speaking of you specifically, but Trump is not necessarily good for business if you want your production to make you money

According to them they are NEVER doing good.

Immigration crackdown has had no effect on labor. Actually we were just notified that labor prices would be going down this coming year. Contrary to popular belief most of the ag industry in my area is legal immigration. The market crisis isn’t just soybeans. It’s all grains so it’s not just a China problem. Do some research before you just repeat what you read on the internet.

So you counted on a bailout?

What is not good for business is our country entering into trade deals with other countries, but not holding our partners accountable to the terms of the agreement. That is what has taken in place with past administrations. And to a very, very large part, that is why agriculture across the board is in the shape it’s in. Specifically Rice. We are used as political leverage. What the Trump administration is doing is correcting years of neglect by past administrations. also, every farmer that I know of voted for Trump because we felt that he would put what is in the best interest of this country first not specifically agriculture.

Who said anything about counting on a bailout?

Made good yields
Corn too
Price i sell isn’t enough to cash flow
It’s a Losing situation.
Inputs too high
Rent
Labor
Repairs and maintenance .
Something’s got to
Change or we’ll all be out business
