Houston Related Question: What's with all the Self Serve Water Vending Stations

I see these all around town here. I don't get it.
People don't have clean water at home? What's the purpose or market for these?

I lived in Houston for 8 years and never knew what those were for.
My best guess was businesses that were too cheap to have the 5 gallon jugs delivered to the office.

true, but they aren't in the nicest parts of towns, so i don't think that's their purpose.

I can't imagine, even in the poorest of areas, that people don't have access to city water. I've seen the larger 5gal refill stations at places like sams/lowes and I've seen the 20oz bottle fountains at a ski resort last season. Not sure what their market is though.

Mexicans wont drink tap water.
They buy that water thinking that it is some clean spring water. It is just tap water that is filtered (maybe).

You talking about those big tower looking things that you can fill up a 5 gallon jug with?
I've seen them in Houston free-standing but also seen them at grocery stores in many places including Louisiana.
People all have access to clean water at home... but bottled water and Kentwood have been things forever. Don't see the difference here?

Some areas of Houston (Acres Homes) tend to have crap water running through their lines so they'll use the jugs instead for drinking water.
My neighbor fills hers up for her cat. Our water here isn't the best and certainly isn't filtered properly.

There's a lot of people that are ignorant and believe that "bottled" and paid for filtered water is better than "tap" water, when in reality our tap water is better than most of that stuff unless you filter your tap.
The markup on that stuff is high so people just like to sell it.

Years ago the water in New Orleans was so nasty that people wouldn't drink it or cook with it. So that is where Kentwood came from. It's better now but lots of older folks still won't drink from the tap in town.

Lots of people like bottled water better than tap water. Cheaper to fill up a 5 gallon jug for $1.75 than buying a case of 16oz bottles.

Landscape crews. I love seeing the trailers with a microwave or two and extension cords..gotta find an outlet to heat up those tortillas, mayne.

some places have really nasty tasting well water and pay for purified or filtered water.
i know at my grandpas they always had water they drank and made ice with that they drove all the way into town to get.
