Harris Counties gun buy-back program launched through Mayor Turner’s new “One Safe Program" occurred over the weekend, only, it didn’t really achieve the results which were planned by Commissioner Rodney Ellis and Mayor Turner… the outcome yielded what most would call ‘the most expensive kids toy gun drive.’ Commissioner Ellis claimed the program “took over 700 guns off from the streets” though, by the photos, it appears the Houston hustlers got the best of the program by turning in TONS of 3D printed guns.

I would do this but the local "buy backs" usually have limits on how many and are often gift cards.

I also don't trust the "no questions asked" aspect of these events. Remember kids, the government can lie to you while it is a crime for you to lie to the government.

$50-100 each? Wasted filament. We should start a challenge to see who can reduce the amount of filament required to the least possible.

Gun buy backs are the government giving you back your money to disarm you.

Exactly. Everyone is missing a huge point here. The Federal Statute regarding private manufacture of firearms specifically states that you can make a firearm for personal use but you MUST be licensed by the federal government with a FFL if you plan to manufacture for sale. This doesn't mean you can't ocassionally sell a firearm you made at home if you decide you don't want it anymore but you have to add manufacturer's identification and a Serial Number.

In this case, this guy obviously manufactured all of these specifically to sell them to the government. He is clearly in violation of Unlicensed Manufacturing. Not saying I agree with this but he 100% opens himself up to a criminal charge with this.

The Houston buyback was funded with federal dollars from the rescue plan act. The feds know.

There are federal protections for these gun buybacks

He isnt getting anything

That's not how it works.

1. Absent an immunity grant from the USAO you can't just go around violating fed law.

2. Do you really trust the fed gov these days not to go after someone arbitrarily? Especially for a firearms violation?

Not saying he would get convicted but he could certainly get arrested and bankrupted defending himself. All for a couple grand and to stick your finger in the government's eye? No thanks.

No one is turning in anything worth a shite though.

These are nothing more than a publicity stunt for cities and police departments across the country

No 2A supporters are participating in these shams

He should have marked them so they can see how many of these wind up back on the street.

Im not even sure how to ATF regulations on being a FFL dealer would apply at all

You need to have a FFL to be a business that sells firearms FOR THE PURPOSE OF RUNNING BACKGROUND CHECKS ON PURCHASERS.

There is no background check on "Houston PD". That is not a person. No individual is receiving your built firearms.
