If you hold this opinion it's definitely not because you're smart.
I have a FT immigration attorney on retainer as I previously hired between 25-30 legal immigrants per year. I’ll say confidently I’m significantly more knowledgeable on the subject than 99% of folks.
I’d love to hear your explanation. In detail.

Undocumented immigrants paid nearly $97 billion in federal, state and local taxes in 2022, according to a July 2024 report, opens new tab by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP), which used data on taxpayers with ITINs to estimate tax revenue.
Not nearly enough, but more than I thought

which doesn’t even remotely come
close to offsetting how much they cost taxpayers on a year by year basis.
go pay taxes in your home country

Does it have a break down between fed, state, & local or by income, property, or sales taxes? Usage taxes are unavoidable by illegals, and one more reason to shift more taxes to users.
Medicaid & payroll taxes are also difficult to avoid, but even if they have no ITIN or bought SS they can reduce the income taxes taken out.
If they received an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number entry for a bogus amnesty or even like this guy with legal entry and with both stay into being illegal they can and do file taxes and receive some limited benefits (Probably more than we think in some states based on blue states reaction to Medicaid changes in recent federal bill and law).
The below were written in 2024.
quote:
If you are a US citizen, you can use your Social Security number (SSN) to file your income taxes. Immigrants who do not have a valid visa or other proof of legal status are not eligible for an SSN. Instead, these workers can apply through the IRS for an individual taxpayer identification number, or ITIN, to file their taxes. As of January 2021, there were an estimated 5.4 million active ITINs.
quote:
Some states have expanded who is eligible for state-level tax credits to include people with ITINs. Maryland, California, and New Mexico allow families with ITIN filers to apply for tax credits like the EITC and the child tax credit (CTC). On a federal level, ITIN filers are eligible for the federal CTC.
quote:
Currently the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) bases eligibility for the benefits on varying standards. For instance:
Earned Income Tax Credit: While the EITC should only go to persons with SSNs authorized to work in the United States, some people receive the EITC even though, neither they, nor their children, possess SSNs with the work authorization. This loophole is due to SSNs issued prior to 2003 without the authorization to work, which enables “unauthorized persons” to claim this credit.
Child Tax Credit: Noncitizens can claim the CTC as long as at least one child has a SSN valid for employment purposes. After 2025, however, the work authorization requirement will be dropped and anyone, including noncitizens, with a SSN or IRS-issued individual taxpayer identification number will be able to claim the CTC.
Not sure about the ones using bought SSN’s. I remember reports of a lot of refunds and some of the covid credits going to one single address. Similar to voter rolls there are probably too many SSN’s in use than there are actual citizens.

Is that just sales taxes from buying stuff (can’t avoid that) or income taxes?

Those are income taxes paid at various levels of government. They don’t include sales tax. That number would be next to impossible to calculate.

fairus.org: The Financial Burden of Illegal Immigration
since I doubt you’ll take the time to open the link, I’ll borrow the figures fairus.org uses to summarize:
Total Government Expenditures on Illegal Aliens:
Total Federal Expenditures: $66,449,136,000
+ Total State Expenditures: $115,608,730,000
= $182,057,865,000
Total Tax Contributions from Illegal Aliens:
Total Federal Taxes Paid: $16,219,495,000
+ Total State Taxes Paid: $15,172,140,000
= $31,391,635,000
So, Total Tax Burden of Illegal Aliens:
$182,057,865, 000 total expenditures on illegal aliens
- $31,391,635,000 total tax contributions from illegal aliens
= $150,666,230,000
$150 billion dollars in 2023.
And that’s 2023. We let in another estimated 3-5 million illegal aliens in 2024. This problem will only continue to snowball until it’s fixed.
No excuses. No exemptions. No sympathy. Deport them all.
