Hence why I am in the burbs.

I have three and my wife was insistent we pick an area where the kids will be in the same school system the whole way through.

She’s compensating for the fact that she had to switch schools for her senior year and is still pissed about it.

Anyplace coastal will have high prices.

It’s just far worse on the west coast and the Atlantic seaboard from Northern Virginia on up due to population density.

You should see the prices in Lake Charles since the plant expansions began.

i think we may be at the peak. i keep seeing more and more listings staying on the market for longer and longer

i feel for anyone stupid enough to buy right now

the biggest difference in the LC area and BR is that you can send your kids to public school here. it's an extra $10-25k/year in BR

Yeah. I didn't realize that alot of the public schools weren't all that bad when I lived there compared to how they are in Baton Rouge and NOLA, excluding Washington Marion and the late LCB haha.

Housing prices aren’t particularly cheap in Kennilworth.

That is crazy. I drove through there recently and it seemed like a shell of its glory days. I may have a bad memory.

i had no idea about how shitty the public schools were in SELA until i went to LSU and as a freshman in the honors college i was made fun of by some Brother Martin or Jesuit guys for going to public school. i was completely ignorant to the social dynamics involved

4 of the top 5 public school districts in the state are in the BR suburbs.

Sounds like they got a lot out of their Catholic education.

It’s all location driven.. you can get more reasonable house out in the outer areas of the parish and ascension/Livingston ... But if you want to live in the heart of the town it’s goinf to cost you, no different than most cities

I see prices starting to stagnate as houses are sitting if they aren’t in what are considered the primo areas..

The houses built in the last 15 years are crap.
Buy a house that is about 50+ years old instead.

Most of Shenandoah didn’t flood. IMO that makes it a better choice for an affordable home and long term investment if you plan on renovating than a lot of other spots.

Those houses aren’t quite cheap enough yet for widespread remodels. Starting to see that in Broadmoor though and western side of Sherwood.

I think there was some flooding way down Goodwood towards Flannery. Not sure how severe.

A handful of my younger friends bought in Kennilworth. There is a new wave of interest from first time homebuyers that are fixing things up at least a little.

There are still a lot of older homeowners in there, but I think it’s a healthy neighborhood that will stand the test of time a lot better than most Louisiana neighborhoods of that era.

Kennilworth has good sized lots, bike lanes, easy access to major employers, and a good location overall. That makes up for some of the dated interiors and bland ranch styles.

i always liked the kennilworth area when i lived in BR. felt like a real, classic neighborhood (which is rare in BR with how they create a single entrance/exit to most f their residential areas)

One of my co-workers just put his house on the market. It hit the market on a Wednesday or Thursday. That next Monday I asked how it was going. He had accepted an offer at 16
% over asking price, had a backup offer for the same 16% over, and had a second backup offer at 14% over asking.
