Open concept
I’ll never understand what tard convinced all our wives that it’s a good idea to put the kitchen in the living room.

I think we have a beautiful timeless style unique to our area here
Can you post some examples who are unfamiliar with that area?

What about it don’t you like?

It can get noisy
You answered your own question. Also tons of echo. If multiple conversations are going on at once, it can be hard to hear. If someone is watching tv while someone else is in the kitchen doing stuff, the person watching better have the captions on.
It’s a great LOOKING concept. I just find that it’s not functional imo for day to day life.
To add on to the bothersome features, having bedrooms right off the family room. Never liked it, and for the same reason as the open concept…loud.
Also, east west facing house…the heat…my God, the heat.

Just moved from a nice new home with open floor plan to an older home without. As much as I loved the look of the open floor plan with huge kitchen and island, it was always loud chaotic, especially with a toddler. If you have them you know that when you’re in the kitchen they always want snack and juice. Well guess what, with an open floor plan, we basically spent every minute “in” the kitchen. It got old quick and now having separate rooms keeps everyone where they need to be.
Also, I miss my old single basin sink. My current is double and much smaller which is difficult because I cook a lot and use large bowls, cutting boards, etc that don’t fit anymore.

I've owned one open concept home. Never again.
What are the downsides? Looking for a house now.

An electric range. Or even worse…an electric range in an island.

Fireplace - I’m not going to use it for the two days it’s below freezing
And in the Deep South it’s more of a design thing and not functional at all

And you think a couple of walls stop that? Don't make the living room their play room. Play in the play room, the home theater that is unused, or their own rooms.
The kitchen is where everyone wants to be, nearly all the time. Having a big island or place to hang in the kitchen makes charcuterie, drinks, etc. much easier. There is always someone in the kitchen that people want to talk to who is prepping or cooking, etc.

Been seeing a lot of newly renovated houses around here with the natural wood (stained) shutters and porch columns. Idk why it bothers me so much. I guess trying to go for that "farmhouse" look but they live in a neighborhood with 100 other houses.

My house is over 5,000 square feet (brag) including the finished basement and somehow my kitchen pantry is the smallest fricking pantry that's ever been constructed. Same story with my tiny arse laundry room. Both of them are barely usable.

Same with my last house. The pantry was only 4 linear feat wider than the tiny closet I have in a 1500sq ft house now. I had bigger pantries in houses built in the 90s that were smaller homes.

Really any acadian style home....
And then especially A Hays Town homes or those inspired by him. He was a famous architect from Baton Rouge...
This is a great book to check out if interested in the classic style down here:

Lack of acreage. If I can see my neighbor they're too close.
