They told us it was too cold for those things to survive outside south Florida.

Most likely some careless owner's snake on the loose. I seriously doubt there's a python (of any type) population foothold in LA.....

It’s not the first big one found in our area. They can survive here. They hibernate.

I mean think about it: If these things were roaming around with an established population, the LDWF would be losing their minds and calling for volunteers to help eradicate them.
