Checks out.
In Retard land.

So...following a weekend where 100 people were shot and around 20 were killed by native Chicagoans, it just so happens that a white dude from Iowa (the state most often blamed for where those poor black folks get their guns to shoot each other in Chicago despite their own strict gun laws) is there with a scoped rifle?
Hey...look over here!

Last Sunday, an employee of the W Chicago - Lake Shore hotel reported to police seeing a semi-automatic rifle with a high-powered scope and laser left “in a very suspicious position”
The last part pretty much casts doubt on the entire thing. You're asking a maid and some cops to judge if something is suspicious.

Whether he had ill intentions or not, I have no issues with anyone dumb enough to carry around a loaded rifle in a downtown hotel being on some sort of watch list. These are the retards that give gun owners bad names, basic gun safety is not a difficult process to understand

Have to imagine this happens in many major cities all over the country but just not reported...

Why did he get arrested did he break the law in any way

o come to our city with an arsenal, an AR-15, and five loaded magazines
That equals an arsenal ???
A single rifle and 150 rounds (there might have been a pistol too) but that barely registers on the scale of "I went to Academy Sports today to get a new fishing pole and this followed me out the door"

“Unfortunately, because he was charged with mere possession illegally here in our city, the charges weren’t of the type that he could have been held,” said Lightfoot
So she basically admits she wishes in this case that he could have been held without bail, but is fine with Foxx letting people walk free who have actually committed gun crimes.
That being said, this whole thing is incredibly suspicious. If the guy has a wife and kids, why was he in Chicago alone on the 4th with his gun and all those rounds? What was his business downtown? Where was he planning to shoot/hunt in the middle of the city?

Chicago has pretty strict laws about gun ownership and possession in the city. They obviously suck at enforcement, but this was low hanging fruit.

Man, I don't know about all that. Sounds shady as hell.
Also don't know what being on the FBIs radar does. Seems like every crazy person who shoots up a bunch of people were on their radar.
It's a Forbes article OP linked. Even if the dude is psyco and they stopped him, do we support this? What if you had weapons in a room, because you're staying in a city where it would be dumb to leave them in vehicle. Again, 1 rd in chamber? Yeah, dumb if true, but what does that prove? We're all supposed to hate the Patriot act, govt, etc, but now we're going to praise an article that Talks about a thwarted attack, yet let the dude go. Seems like a fake arse story.

This dude is a terrible mass murderer. Just leaves his shite out in plain sight while the maid comes change the towels.

Why dumb? If you have to shoot your weapon, amped up on adrenaline, you don't want to be fumbling around trying to load a round. That split second could get you killed.

Yep, that tells me this dude had weapons in a room, probably didn't care, room cleaner came in and freaked out because it's a dumb room cleaner, then got blown up to a positive spin about how we did this, yet nothing seems suspicious
WTF
Why would a dude travel alone for no reason, get a hotel room with that view, have a round chambered, and 5 loaded magazines sitting on a window sill overlooking the crowd?
You were given all of that information and still think he wasn't planning anything horrible? I swear some of you have no common sense because you're blinded by politics and the racial climate of 2021.
We don't know if he put do not disturb on the door and the maid walked in anyway. We don't know if he just forgot because he was a fricking crazy person. We don't know if the maid came back a second time that day and he didn't expect that.
What we do know is that having that kind of ammo and a chambered round in a rifle with that scope setup at the window overlooking a massive crowd is fricking bizarre and scary.

Exactly, no one should be defending this guy. His actions are suspect and he needs to have a psychological evaluation.
Why do people defend people who do things that they would never do themselves? Jury of your peers.
Cops shouldn't have shot that guy in a ski mask holding a machete and threatening people..... because you could have been in the same situation? Why defend crazy?

The mayor appears to have no comment on this:
quote:
Last month, Foxx’s (DA) top data officer held a “training session” for Chicago journalists in which he said CPD was not “arresting the right people” for illegal gun possession in the city. A lot of people whose first arrests are for gun possession “will forever be marked as a felon [and end up with] different life choices as a result of this,” WBEZ quoted Matthew Saniie as telling journalists.

Well if it's a fake story I'm with you obviously.
Not sure we need to get into a patriot act discussion in this case. A maid happening across a potential sniper's nest is a pretty low tech bust. If it happened as reported, the right call was to intervene.
This country is full of people with no criminal history that are getting closer to the brink, including mechanics with a family.
